Customer Review: Small Mouse using trap as Cafeteria and mocking me

I've had the mouse trap for a month now and I've found it convenient to bait and check daily. It's simple mechanism works smoothly.
I baited it with some small dog food and peanut butter and waited to catch the mouse I've seen (I've already used copper mesh to seal up the outside entry points that had been previously used by the mice).
When I returned home from a recent two day trip, I checked the trap only to find something quite disturbing...The peanut butter was all gone as was most of the dog food...in its place were many mouse droppings in the trap and No Mouse...
So my theory is this: The mouse is smaller than the trap is designed for. If the mouse is small enough, it will walk the plank (See-Saw) and tip it down towards the outer edge, thus opening the trap door. The mouse is not that small though as I've seen it poking it head up through a gap in my floor register just past midnight last week. Now I'm hunting for another method to trap it. (my kids with jars, peanut butter, and fast hands perhaps?)
