I get nearly a quart of ice cream from it, and it makes very good ice cream - smooth and not at all mushy or melted. Some users comment that it doesn't get cold enough to make decent ice cream. In that case, I'd guess their freezer is not cold enough and therefore the maker's freezing unit is not cold enough (if store bought ice cream isn't almost hard as a rock in your freezer, your freezer isn't cold enough). However, at $59, it's ridiculously expensive. (I got mine for $2 at a yard sale). It's worth about $29 max. Oh, and it makes great sorbet!

Overall, I am very pleased with this product. There is one thing that concerns me . . . the handle is plastic, and when I turn the handle, I am concerned that one of these times it will break. Also, I looked for a little larger ice cream maker with these same qualities. Either I did not see it, or it is not available.

I bought this because I'm lactose intolerant and the grocery store offers few soy ice cream options. I've made numerous creative soy ice creams and they always come out great. The only down side is the canister takes up a good chunk of room in the freezer and I have to plan ahead at least 24 hours to freeze it.

Often a complaint is that the ice cream is too soft. This can be the fault of the recipe rather than the ice cream maker. Even then, you can still just freeze it for longer afterwards. We have had great results with ours.
