Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Donvier 837409W 1-Quart Ice Cream Maker

Customer Review: I love it
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the greatest ice cream maker. I've made blueberry, strawberry, cherry, peach- you name it, we've eaten it. This is great- you just keep the metal tub in your freezer. It doesn't take up any room- frozen peas or whatever fit right inside it when it's in the freezer, and you can use it day after day. I'm thinking of buying a second one, so we can make ice cream with one, and keep the other in the freezer, so we'll always have a frozen one. It's really healthy, and you don't need mixes, or salt, or anything but the ingredients! And at least one arm in the party, so you can give the paddle a turn every once in a while. It's great! I love it!

Customer Review: works great, just takes some practice
Summary: 5 Stars

We had one for years, gave it to a friend and bought a new one here. Still love the homemade ice cream, but do have to admit you get best results if you use it often enough to remember what works well. I think that's the problem the people are having who are complaining. For example, you do have to pour in the base quickly and start stirring quickly, or it may freeze in place. If you haven't used it for awhile, you forget about that and then you make a little hassle for yourself. And some recipes seem to become too cold for the full flavor to develop properly in the mouth. We haven't discovered the solution to that yet.

Customer Review: This is so much fun!

This would make a nice or unique wedding or housewarming gift. It doesn't take up much room, and really works as easily as advertised. For initial use, ensure the chillfast canister has frozen at or below 0 degrees for at least 48 hours. Be sure to insert the blade into the canister BEFORE pouring in the chilled mixture or it will freeze to the sides and you won't be able to get the blade in place. Any 3 to 4-cup ice cream or sorbet recipe will fit this great little gizmo. Mint with chocolate shavings is our favorite so far. Makes 6-8 nice servings. Have fun and enjoy!

Customer Review: Easy and efficient
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had a Donvier ice cream maker for 5 years and have never been dissapointed with it. I leave the empty insert in the freezer when not in use just waiting for the impulse to make some ice cream.

We can have fresh ice cream or sorbet in short order. I just give the paddle a turn every so often while I'm making lunch or dinner and by the time we finish eating our meal it's ready. Very easy cleanup.

Customer Review: Works Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just picked one up at a thrift store yesterday for $5. Pretty much new in box too. MAnual was missing, but that's online. I have made vanilla ice cream (Alton Brown's recipe) and Lemon Lime Basil Sorbet so far. Great results with both. Followed the freezing instructions, and made sure to let the "finished" ice cream ripen in the freezer for a few hours. It hels my freezer runs at -3 F.
