Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Debbie Meyer Green BagsCustomer Review: I'm as surprised as anyone, but, THESE WORK! Summary: 5 Stars
My grandma is the queen of buying me "As-Seen-On-TV" products for Christmas, and I typically don't use them or if I do, I expect very little. Such was the case with the Debbie Meyer Greenbags I got in my stocking this year. I thought it was worth a shot, so I bought some fresh herbs and veggies and stored these in them right after Christmas.
To my amazement, the cilantro I bought over a month ago is still fine! Normally it wilts after a day or two. It didn't work as well on the bananas as the herbs, but man, they're worth the money for the herbs alone! I also threw some lemons in a bag, and they are still lovely and yellow. Overall, these FAR exceeded my expectations! (so maybe the key is to have low expectations??)
Customer Review: Works for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I too don''t understand all the negatives for the green bags. I have not tried the bags on bananas, because bananas don't last long around our house anyway! But bagged salad greens last one week or more past the 'sell by' date. And tomatoes last several days (not in the fridge, though!) We have noticed a substantial difference in keeping fresh strawberries in the green bags. I use them for asparagus and green beans also and they will keep for a couple of weeks in the crisper drawer.
I think maybe people are not using them correctly (do not twist shut, but fold over loosely), or else they have unreasonable expectations on how long food will keep.
I would recommend them.
Customer Review: Green Bags are great ! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm always amazed when I read negative reviews about Green Bags. I've been buying and throwing away vegetables for YEARS, and just figured that was the way it was, until I bought these bags. I now very rarely throw away vegetables at all. The bags extend the life of my vegetables by a factor of at least 2, and sometimes 3. I've read some bad comments about bananas, which I've never stored in the bags, so i can't comment on that. But i always store stuff like leafy greens, carrots, peapods, etc, which used to go limp and soft in a matter of 3 or 4 days, but now stay crisp for up to 2 weeks. I now get mad every time I think of how much produce I've chucked over the years.
Customer Review: keeps produce fresh longer Summary: 5 Stars
I've used these bags for years. I'm a vegan and eat huge amounts of fresh veggies. These really help keep my veggies fresh. I tried putting carrots in a clear plastic bag and some in this green bag. I left them in the fridge for a couple of weeks. Night and day difference. I relish these bags. I wish I could buy a box of all large. I recommend these bags to all my friends.
Once a week I go to Pat's Biodynamic Farm and get a bounty of produce. I bring these bags and use them immediately. I am grateful that these keep my food so fresh.
Of note: only put one kind of fruit or vegetable in each bag. Even basil stays fresh in these bags.
Customer Review: I love these bags! Summary: 5 Stars
I have not used these bags with bananas so I can not speak to that issue.
I have however, been using Debbie Meyer Green bags for all of my produce kept in the refrigerator. For instance, I have never been able to keep celery crispy for more than a few days - until I put them in a DM bag. I promise I had celery stay crispy green for over two weeks! I use them for potatoes, carrots, green beans, cantaloupe, blueberries, strawberries, even avocados!
I see that the price has been reduced - perhaps from the bad reviews so I am going to buy up twice what I intended.
Obviously I would highly recommend DM green bags.
