I mounted this crusher to a board much like shown in the pictures associated with this product. It's quite stable that way, and so I'd recommend same to anyone else.
What I like about this thing is that it's less noisy and requires less effort than the type of can crusher that presses down on the top. Plus it doesn't need to be pre-dented. It also doesn't need to be mounted to a wall.

We have had a can smasher similar to this for years that was mounted on top of a metal trash can w/slot in top to drop crushed cans into. We got it years ago with priority points from Holiday Inn and it has been a favorite gadget in our home. Was devastated when it broke and never dreamed of being able to find a replacement. This piece even fit into the same holes on our can lid. It's great.Customer Review: Love this item, can use it on the kitchen counter.

I love this item, I use it on the kitchen counter and then tuck it away. My husband has a hard time with it, the cans ripe for some reason when he does it, but it works fine for me. I'm ordering a new one as both pivot pins sheared this weekend. I like it because it doesn't have to be mounted. It doesn't work quite as well on Coor's cans as they are a smaller diameter than other beverage cans.Customer Review: It works

My only complaint it that it's a bit pricey compared to other gadgets that do the same. I spent the money anyway because I really didn't have a good place to mount a crusher and this is the only one I could find that works on a table top and doesn't have to be mounted. A nice side benefit of not having it mounted, and the fact that there are no metal parts that can rust, means that when my husband has been using it on cans that have not completely dried out and it gets all sticky I can just run it through the dishwasher.
