It is true that you may have to toss 5-6 pitchers after installing a new filter, but the water is outstanding. Please check what the Brita removes as compared to the Culligan. The Brita is a "taste and odor" only filter whereas the Culligan actually removes chemicals as well. Using a Brita may make your water taste better but it is not helping your health.Customer Review: Good Water

I think the trip through the mail shakes these things up more than when they get transported in bulk to stores. When they're transported in bulk, they're all upright and stay that way since they're all strapped together on a giant pallet. However, one box getting sent through the mail is going to get set down in all sorts of positions before it gets to me.
I have to spend a minute cleaning the charcoal dust off of the outside of these when I get them in the mail. All of the tumbling around in the mail lets the charcoal come out of the holes on the top. I don't have to do this when I buy them from the store because the packages are always upright. (unless an employee accidentally drops one while stocking)
In any event, since I only have to change these things once every 2 months, it's worth cleaning a little charcoal off the outside to save a few bucks on them. There isn't enough charcoal getting out to make them any less effective.

I honestly can't understand why some give these filters a poor rating, perhaps it's something with the differences in our water supplies? Regardless, these filters work well for me. The only reason that I didn't give them a 5 Star rating is that I have never used any other type of filter (Pur, Brita, etc.) so I don't have a good frame of reference to compare them against. Perhaps they aren't as good as the other brands, but I'm happy with the taste of the water after using these filters.Customer Review: Culligan Pitcher/Filters

My recent purchase of a Culligan Pitcher (blue top & handle) was received on time. The handle is large and awkward to hold. The lid must be held when pouring. The reminder dial is not useful. I owned an earlier model for years and it was much better designed. Even with these drawbacks, the pitcher & filter perform very good. The water filters very radpidly and the taste very good. Also, Culligan stated that the plastic did not contain BPA. I would buy this product again.
