Customer Review: Too hot
Summary: 2 Stars

I was excited to get this beautiful crock pot last Christmas. But after cooking with it for a year, I'm looking for a new one this year. I have had extensive trouble getting the temperature regulated on this unit. It seems to boil nearly everything I put in there.
I'm glad a whole group of people have had great success with this model; perhaps I (and a whole other group of people) got lemons. Who knows?
But I don't trust this model anymore.

Customer Review: Rival's lid handles break!
Summary: 2 Stars

The same thing just happened to us - we've used our crockpot a little over a year and last night the handle just pulled right off the lid! The glue or plastic just crumbled into little pieces, like it got too hot for it or something. Rival's warranty won't cover it since it's over 12 months old and the lid is $10 plus $8 S&H. That's why we're looking at getting another one, but not Rival. Buyer be warned!

Customer Review: Another Broken Handle
Summary: 2 Stars

The handle is a real issue! To extend the use, I've Gorilla glued the handle back on a couple of times ~ I didn't even think to call rival direct and I couldn't find a replacement handle anywhere. From other reviews, I agree that $18 is WAY to much. The handle just broke off again last night ~ definitely time for me to buy a new crock pot and it will not be a Rival.

Customer Review: Cooks WAY too HOT!!! If you want a SLOW cooker, buy something else!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

We had an old Rival crock pot from the 80s that worked great, you could put a frozen roast in it on low in the morning, go to work, and come home to perfectly cooked roast after work. It finally gave up and died... so we went on a quest for a new one.

Bought this Rival oval crock pot. It got way to hot, it's only good for making boiled jerky out of your roast! This despite putting it on low. Even trying to cook on low for a mere four hours, this will turn a roast into a tough, boiled piece of leather. Tried putting in a frozen roast, it will STILL turn your roast into jerky in four hours!!!!

We thought perhaps Hamilton Beach would be a better choice, so we went back and spent the 40 bucks to buy a "stay and go" digital model. Same problem. Apparently all the "new and improved" crock pots have been made much hotter than the old ones, and cook much faster. This makes them virtually worthless for making a decent roast or slow cooked batch of stew. My old crock pot from the 80s made every roast so tender it fell apart. These new ones we bought will both speedily boil your roast into an unappetizing chunk of leather that is difficult to cut, let alone chew.

GET WITH IT Rival and Hamilton Beach! Make a NEW slow cooker that actually... ahem... COOKS SLOW.... on a LOW temperature for 8 hours or so, or don't bother trying to sell it to me as a "slow cooker". I'm going to some second hand stores hoping I can buy a REAL slow cooker in serviceable condition from back when they made them to BE slow cookers... rather than just an electric boiling pot.

Again, note: In four hours, on LOW temperature, these new ones will turn your roast into boiled tough jerky. Don't waste your money until Rival and Hamilton Beach wake up!

Customer Review: Don't waste your money
Summary: 1 Stars

Like other reviewers, I found that this cooker did not realize it was a SLOW cooker. Even on the lowest temperature, it dries out almost everything I cook in it, and the food burns to the crock. I laugh at the idea that it can be washed in the dishwasher. First you will have to sandblast, scrape and scrub with everything you've got. This was my first experience with a slow cooker, so I did not realize what a good slow cooker should do until seeing the results that others were getting with Hamilton Beach crock pots.

I wrote a letter to the manufacturer, thinking that there had been a mistake and possible a recall on this model's heating element. Because an out-of-control heating element, it would be fool hardy to leave this unit unattended, and isn't that the whole purpose of a crockpot?

I received no response. This is a first, in my experience. Apparently Rival/Crockpot does not care if it has repeat customers, it only wants to sucker them into buying the appliance once.

I will never support this company with my dollar votes again!
