Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot SCVP600-SS 6-Quart Smart-Pot Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Much Better Than The Original. Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased a Rival Crock Pot when they first came out. It was a bright red one. I used it for a wide variety of dishes. I had it in the kitchen for over three decades but my use gradually tapered off. One of the problems was that it was too hard to clean (crock could not be removed for washing). Also, the controls were too primitive. My wife suggested that we get rid of it if it wasn't being used. So, reluctantly, it went to the local thrift store. I purchased this new model a few months later.
Boy, what an improvement over the old model! This new one is a snap to clean. The heat and time control are excellent. Every dish I've tried has come out perfect, or nearly so. My wife is amazed at my cooking ability. Well, there's not much of a secret. I simply select simple dishes, put the recipe in, set it for the time I want and all dishes have come splendidly.
In reading over other user reviews, I notice a lot of highly negative reports. I don't understand. I've had problems of any kind except for one time when I tried to cook an amount that was too small for the size of the pot. The ingredients were boiled dry and burned. That was my mistake, not that of the pot. I've found that the pot should be about 2/3 full for best results and I've had no problems with preparations of that size. Perhaps my decades-long experience with my original Crock Pot has helped out. I'd say this Crock Pot is a far superior model to the original. I've had no problems in the three years I've been using it.

Customer Review: The Slowcooker is Excelent, its YOU that burns the food. Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I have had this cooker for about two years. She is I will say, an excellent cook. But since our's is getting old, we started shopping for a new one on Amazon. To my shock, I see the very model I own has over 50 1 star ratings! I love every meal my wife makes in the crock pot, and yes, it gets hot. Very hot. It is so hot that if someone without the knowhow on how to use a crock pot cooked in it, they could burn their food. For the people who do not know you need a sufficient amount of liquid and/or masses of food so as not to have the liquid completely boil out and regulate the temperature of the apparatus on the whole. You will definitely burn food if you are unprepared to use a six quart cooker, they need to be at least 2/3 full before turned on. If this requirement is met, you will(likely) have a great meal in a decently priced, very sturdy slow cooker. I also think its worth mentioning it is a poor craftsman who blames his tools...On that note, I wish you could choose the amount of time you set the pot for, but you get 4 and 6 hours on high and 8-10 on low. Easily worked with if you remember to change it over at roughly the right time. Anyway, the cycles will cook your stuff well as long as you follow the rules. After all the meals I have enjoyed out of this baby I can't recommend this product enough.
Customer Review: Great cooker, but programming could be better Summary: 4 Stars
I love this crockpot and I haven't experienced a problem with it running hot. It's a great size and the crock is easy to clean and/or put in dishwasher (depending on how much time I have to clean up). I love how simple the programming is and I dislike how simple the programming is. ;) By that I mean... I love the push-button programming and how the crock automatically turns to "warm" until ready to eat. I dislike that 4 or 6 hours is programmed for "high" setting, and 8 or 10 hours is programmed for "low". I recently made the first of several recipes that recommended cooking on low for 6 hours -- and I could not get the best of both worlds because you can't program time and temp separately on this model. So I had to set it for 8 hours on low and be there at the 6 hour point to turn it to warm for another hour os so until we were ready to eat dinner. I still like this model very much, but some recipes will not be as convenient to cook if I have to watch the time. Overall I am still very pleased with this model -- a huge improvement over my old one with the knob and only "low", "high" and "off" settings.
Customer Review: I love mine! Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I received this for our wedding 8 years ago. We have used it extensively and so far, we still love it. Nothing has broke, nothing has been replaced, and it still cooks the same today as it did when we first received it. We use our crock pot around 3-4 times a month and some months, more than that, so our crock has seen it's share of use over the past 8 years. The food comes out perfect, hot drinks have come out perfect, and even desserts have been cooked to perfection in our crock. We have never had anything burn nor break. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish the temp controls were a little better. Sometimes, I need to cook something for 3-4 hours on high and with this model, it can't be done. So that's annoying. Other than that, this has been a great product!
Customer Review: Louisiana Smart-Pot Experience Summary: 4 Stars
Finally, a slow cooker that is big enough to hold all the ingredients for a stew! The cooking is relatively even although cooking chicken requires less time than is recommended in instruction booklet. (Made the chicken very dry as it was overcooked.) Love the automatic warm setting after cooking is completed. I have recommended this product to friends. This is a great appliance for working moms (or anyone not wishing to keep a close watch on the actual cooking of ingredients!)
