Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot SCVP600-SS 6-Quart Smart-Pot Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Fill it up! Cooking for Larger Quantity Yields (6 qts) Summary: 5 Stars
Fill it up!
This slower cooker works perfectly. I just wish Rival made the exact same model in a 3 qrt version for deserts.
***Cooking for Larger Quantity Yields***
Most recipes are recommended for 3 to 4 1/2 quart sizes. When preparing recipes in a larger unit, such as a 5 to 7-quart slow cooker, here are guidelines for doubling or tripling ingredients:
* When preparing dishes with beef or pork in a larger unit, browning the meat in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker yields the best results; the meat will cook more evenly. Roasted meats, chicken, and turkey quantities may be doubled or tripled, and seasonings adjusted by half. Caution: Flavorful spices such as garlic and chili powder will intensify during long slow cooking. Add just 25 to 65 percent more spices as needed to balance the flavors.
* When preparing a soup or a stew, you may double all ingredients except liquids, seasonings, and dried herbs. Increase liquid volume by half, or as needed. The slow cooker lid collects steam, which condenses to keep foods moist and maintain liquid volume. Do not double thickeners, such as cornstarch, at the beginning. You may always add more thickener later if needed.
* When preparing baked goods or cheesecakes, it is best to simply prepare the original recipe as many times as needed to serve more people.
Customer Review: Fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this pot for 2-3 years now and love it. I have read the other reviews and am in total disagreement with people who say this crock pot burns food. No way near the truth, I have cook a rump roast to pefection in mine that you could cut it with a fork, talk about tender and full of taste. I think the secret is to get the amount of liquid that you use to slow cook correct. And what a convenience that roast I put on Saturday night before bed set it for 8 hours (it was a good size roast) and when I got up my main entree was done!! how much better can it get, plus I have used my cooker for vegetables and soups. Effortless cooking!!!
Anyone who complains about this crock pot should buy themselves a slow cooker receipe book and try some of the receipes and trust me they will be a believer like myself. Oh did I mention that I own two!!! I can cook a whole dinner without standing over any stove or watching an oven.
Customer Review: Great for a NEW Crockpot Summary: 5 Stars
I noticed all the negative reviews of this product and wanted to add my review. First of all, all new crockpots cook things at a much higher temperature than the older models. This has to do with food safety regulations that have changed over the years. The best thing to do with these newer models is to test a recipe while you are at home to make sure it works in the crockpot and then use it while you are away.
I love this crockpot. It is big so only use it if you are making a ton of food. I've cooked pot roast, soups, briscuit and even chicken in here. Only one of my recipes burned while I was away and that was because my husband forgot to turn it off. It's best to cook things with lots of liquid so they are less likely to burn. If you know how to use it, this crockpot can be an enormous help in the kitchen!
Customer Review: Works great!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not sure why other people are having such troubles with their slow cooker. Maybe they aren't putting enough in it? Things will get done too fast or cook too hot if you don't have it 2/3 full. I've personally got nothing but positive things to say about this crockpot. Love that it switches to warm automatically. After using an oval cooker I will never go back to a round one again! Fits weird sized roasts and chickens so easily. There's none of that shoving things down just to try and fit it inside like you get with a round pot.
Customer Review: No complaints here!! Summary: 5 Stars
This crock pot is a great. It's not super expensive and gives a BANG for it's buck. The options to set your cook time for 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours comes in very handy when you have something else to do during the time. I also like the 'warm' setting to keep your food hot once the cooking is done. The 'pot' is separate from the outside section so you can remove it from the actual part that cooks the food and store it in your refrigerator if you got some left overs. I recommend this to everyone.
