Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot 3735-WN 3-1/2-Quart Slow CookerCustomer Review: Amazing for the Price Summary: 5 Stars
Rival Mfg Co. 3735-WN Crock-Pot Slow Cooker For the price, this little Crock Pot is amazing. It is perfect for cooking a large sweet potato or white potato to be halved and shared with one other person. It is great for taking a pot of baked beans or a green bean casserole to the office party. It is big enough to keep some collard greens warm after they've ben cooked down. It is a nice size for chili con queso. It is ideal for serving at a buffet because it is pretty.
Although I like this Crock Pot and use it often, I have two problems with it. First, it heats well, a little too well. I never use it on the high setting. Sometimes it overcooks on the lowest setting. Therefore I usually reduce the cooking time or turn it off intermittently. Since I own only one of this model, I don't know whether this is simply a peculiarity of my pot.
The joy of using a Crock Pot to cook is huge. Slow cookers use a tiny amount of fuel. In the summer they don't heat up Southern kitchens. In the winter, they provide a place to cook soup that warms our tummies.
The other problem is that I spill stuff on the outside -- the part that cannot be immersed and I have to work at keeping it clean and pretty.
Customer Review: Buy only Rival! Summary: 5 Stars
I have an older version of thed 3.5 quart crock pot, with nonremovable stoneware and no cool touch. It's great! Removable crockery is good for easier cleanup, though. I have tried other brands, but only Rival Crock-Pots work just right. After all, they are the original! This size is great for one- or two-person households, or for desserts and side dishes for larger households. Accessories are available: meat rack, small bake pan, dust cover, insulated carrying tote. I love coming home to a cooked meal at the end of the day, when I'm too tired to cook. It's great for making cooked fruit jams, fruit desserts, bread pudding, rice pudding. Of course, beans, soups, and stews are also excellent. Meats are better browned or seared before putting in the crockpot, to avoid that hospital food texture. The recipes are also much better than the 70's onion soup/liquid smoke/canned condensed soup variety. Let this "little old lady" cook for you all day!
Customer Review: Fantastic Cooker. Summary: 5 Stars
My oven has felt neglected for years. Between my crock pot, microwave oven and my toaster oven, my real oven has become a storage area for junk.
This crockpot is perfect for one person or a family. It makes even the toughest and cheapest cuts of meat tender and moist. I simply toss in the meat, veggies and potatoes and then leave the house. When I come home, supper is ready.
I like the two settings - low and high. The high setting really gets the cooking process moving.
Cleaning is a snap. If I don't wash it right away I simply fill it with hot water and let it soak. It cleans right up without scrubbing, even if there's some burned food on the bottom.
Last night I tossed in some chicken, sliced onions and a can of mushroom soup. Does it get any easier than that? It took five minutes of preparation to make a tasty meal fit for a king.
Customer Review: Perfect for lentils and Indian dhal cooking Summary: 5 Stars
This is very good for Indian dhals and lentil cooking. With pressure cookers, there are spilling and foaming problems when you cook Indian dhals, and the kitchen needs to be cleaned constantly. The slow cooker does not have that probelm.
You can throw the dry lentils with water right before you leave for work and come back and have fully cooked lentils. If you want your lentils the first thing in the morning, start the cooking process right before you go to bed. You can reduce the cooking time by half for lentils, if you cook on high heat.
This slow cooker is quite large and I can cook lentils for big Indian parties.
It's very easy to wash. Just remove the pot and put it in the dishwasher.
I'd strongly recommend this product for Indian cooking.
Customer Review: perfect size, easy clean up, simple to use Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this crock pot for a few years, and wouldn't trade it for anything. The removable crock is easy to clean (you'd think it had a non-stick surface!), and with two settings, it couldn't be simpler to use. The oval shape makes it better suited for cuts of meat than a round one would be. This size is just about right for a small chicken or a 2-3 lb roast. Try this for an easy dinner: brown a 2-3 lb pork roast. Throw it into the crock pot and pour a jar of salsa over the roast. Put the lid on, set the crock pot to Low, and leave it alone for 8 hours. Serve the tender pork with potatoes and green beans for the perfect comfort-food meal, or scoop it into tortillas or onto sandwich rolls for a quick and hearty lunch.
