Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot 3040-BC 4-Quart Round-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Cracked Handles!
Summary: 2 Stars

In agreement with the rest of the posts on this item...Our crock pot lasted two years (receiving it as a wedding present), and upon pulling it out of the cabinet yesterday, the handles cracked and fell off! Now, we have to buy a replacement that will cost more money??? Can't they put out a stainless steel crock pot built to last??? Don't buy this product unless you want to replace it every couple of years!

Customer Review: Switch may malfunction
Summary: 2 Stars

The low setting on this crockpot turned out to be a high setting. It ruined two meals before I was sure.
It is not salvageable, and too much time had elapsed, I didn't keep the receipt. It never occurred to me that the thing wouldn't work properly. Next time I will be more careful in case of a return.

Customer Review: Would give it zero stars
Summary: 1 Stars

We bought this crock pot to replace an older Rival pot that doesn't have a removable stoneware insert, in hopes that it would be easier to clean and use. I loved the look of this pot as well as the convenience. Since we've been happy with the construction and performance of our older Rival pot, we picked a new one from the same maker.

What a mistake...apparently, Rival's design and quality control are no longer what they once were. The outside of this pot heats up far more than our older pot does, to the point that it is a burn risk. Plus, the lid is very lightweight and doesn't have a "lip" to send condensation back into the pot. Instead, it slowly spits boiling hot water all over the counter. Since we have a toddler and safety is a major concern, this pot went right back to Target! We've been looking for a better model, but all the Rival pots seem to have the new flimsy lid and thus probably the same spitting hot water problem. Not sure what to suggest, except not to buy this pot.

Customer Review: Bad customer service
Summary: 1 Stars

I had this pot for about two months, using it once a week, when one handle, then another, cracked. The sides are too hot. It spits out the sides of the lids. Food burns to a crust on the sides. I have had larger, older, Rival pots last for years. Lately, I don't know why they just feel cheap. I also had the bottom of the matching 5 quart size suddenly unravel while I was carrying a crock full of meatballs from the kitchen to the dining room and the crock fell to the ground with the heating element exposed. Always used pot holders, always filled up food to over halfway. Did all as expected, but the screws unravel or broke inside between the layers of the aluminum sides. Can't buy replacement parts easily. Can't reach a person at the Rival website.

Customer Review: Simply horrible!
Summary: 1 Stars

My family has used Rival's crockpots for years so I was thrilled to recieve one as a wedding gift. I can deal with it being hot on the outside but, like everyone else one of my handles started to chip and crack one night after I took it to a party. After that handle snapped off the other followed a few days later. I was dismayed to have the screws that held them on drop into the insulated lining of the crockpot. When I wrote to Rival about it (it having been slightly over a year since I'd recieved it) not only did they take forever to respond but they denied my claim due to it no longer being under warranty. I definitely won't buy another, which is a shame since I was so fond of the company before this happened.
