I bought this after all the positive and not so positive reviews. Should have listened to the not so positive reviews!! It never gave me a truly sharp, sharp knife. Although it was easy enough to use. I have some Hammer & Stahl german knives and I ran one through it and I got some really annoying scratches along the sides of the knife. Didn't hurt the functionality of the knife but it did ruin it's appearance. I then bought a manual, two stage Wusthof sharpener for 20.00 and low and behold I have really sharp knives again, with very little effort and no scratches on my knives. I now have a 130.00 paper weight. If you have older cheaper knives and don't mind the scratches, then this could be for you.
