Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart TeakettleCustomer Review: Very happy with this kettle purchased summer 2009 Summary: 5 Stars
I selected this kettle based on positive customer reviews. I am as happy with this kettle as all the 5 star reviewers are. I use it several times a day. It turns off automatically, but I have learned what it sounds like when the water is just about to boil, so I usually turn it off. If filled to max it is heavy, but I usually fill to 1.5. The stainless steel kettle does get hot, but knowing that, it has never been a problem, just touch only the handle. I am so pleased with this kettle that it has inspired me to write my first ever product review on-line!
Customer Review: love it. Summary: 5 Stars
I drink a lot of iced tea and use a plunger to make coffee. This kettle is terrific. Heats up fast, has an automatic shutoff mechanism so I don't worry about overboiling or fire, and being cordless, it's easy to fill and pour. I've had mine for almost a year and no sign of trouble yet. The exterior does get hot, but the handle stays cool. One thing: I live in an area with extremely hard water, so it's a good idea to boil white vinegar diluted with a little tap water in the kettle once in a while to get rid of mineral buildup. I highly recommend this kettle.
Customer Review: Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart Teakettle by amazon Summary: 5 Stars
excellent.. boils in about 8 minutes..wash inside with wash cloth for about 4 miutes to rid the steel odor... then it's fine to use! no more odor,...bit heavy but boiling from steel container beats boiling from plastic ones, .. just not comfortable with boiling water day after day in a plastic thing, not healthy?!!.. thanks amazon !!.. hope it lasts .. usually from past experience these electric kettles don't last long.. but chef's choice might last long, i hope.
UpdATE: after 1 year [april 26 2009], still works!
Customer Review: Much better than a microwave Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this some time ago to use in my office so I could make tea or instant oatmeal and haven't regretted it. The unit looks sharp, boils water very, very quickly and stays relatively clean. Every now and then you need to wipe out the inside (people with small hands will find this easier to do than me). This unit has also elicited many complimentary comments from co-workers.
If you are microwaving hot water for tea (or worse, using an immersion heater), this is what you need. It's really great!
Customer Review: Nice design & great function Summary: 5 Stars
In replacing our stovetop kettle with an electric one, I was looking for one to match the stainless steel & black appliances in our kitchen, and this one is great. This heats water much faster than the stovetop or microwave, and is pretty quiet in the process; the sides get a little hot during the heating, but the bottom stays cool enough to move straight to the table (sans trivet!) I don't know if the "scale screen" included will help any, but otherwise I think this a great purchase!
