Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart TeakettleCustomer Review: Really excellent Summary: 5 Stars
This kettle replaced my plastic Bodum kettle that finally bit the dust after daily use for four or so years. I wanted to get something that matched the appliances in our kitchen and that could hold a LOT of water.
This fits the bill beautifully. It's gorgeous, and of a high quality. I love that it holds a lot of water -- we also make a lot of ice tea, and this is how we make it in the winter time ;) -- so the reviewers who are saying it's too heavy: that's why. It's because there's a lot of water in the kettle.
The only negative -- unlike the Bodum, the outside of this kettle gets VERY, VERY hot once it's "done its thing." Like so hot that if a child touched it for more than a nano-second, it could result in serious injury (I'm guessing this is due to the stainless steel, which is not insulated). We have a 2.5-year-old, and if I'd known this, we may have gone with a different kettle. But we just keep it out of the "grab zone" and stress that it is a "no touch."
Customer Review: Convenient, quick, pure taste. Summary: 5 Stars
I have had a number of hot-water on-demand products plumbed into my sink, hoping to make a quick cup of fresh coffee in the morning using a french press and fresh ground coffee beans. However, they all added a plastic taste to the water, that contaminated the pure taste of my morning brew. Really noticable!
I used one of these electric kettles recently in Ireland, and was impressed how fast it heated the full pot of water. And the taste was as pure as out of the faucet. It's simple: just fill it up, place it on its base, push down the lever and within a few short minutes I have a pot of perfectly heated water. When I returned home, I quickly purchased one for myself and have loved it ever since.
I picked this particular kettle because of the reputation of the Chef's Choice brand. Indeed, it's solidly made, ultra-simple to use, and very convenient. It's a winner!
Customer Review: Chef's Choice Electric Teakettle Summary: 5 Stars
We really like this teakettle. The 1-3/4 quart size is great for pots of coffee when we use the French Press. The water heats in minutes to a full boil. The kettle is fairly lightweight for its size with a comfortable space between the handle and pot so there is no concern about accidentally burning fingers. The automatic shut off is a really nice feature and the we like the red lighted switch as well. When it is busy and noisy in the kitchen, it is easy to see from a distance the kettle got turned on. The clear view water level panel is a bonus feature.
We like the stainless steel look and ease of cleaning, because of the black handle and lid, fingerprints don't show.
We really enjoy using this product. It is wonderfully useful, and nice to look at on the counter.
Customer Review: Boiling Water 101 Summary: 5 Stars
This product does an excellent job of the archetypal simple cooking task: boiling water. Of course you could do the same job with a kettle on the stove or with a glass container in the microwave but having a specialized appliance for the job has advantages. For one thing it boils water more quickly than any other method I've seen. And it is efficient so that the minimum amount of energy is expended. And it turns off when it reaches the boil so you don't have to watch closely. This electric kettle is cleanly designed, not overly large, and the detachable base means that one needn't drag the cord around when pouring. Overall, it is an excellent buy for anyone who brews tea or for coffee fanatics who prefer the French press or filter brewing methods.
Customer Review: Perfect tea at work! What a novel concept! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a tea freak in a coffee drinking work world. Nuked water is not boiled, no matter how hot it is, and does not produce acceptable tea. I was given a Bodum electric kettle as a leaving present from my first job, and it lasted through two subsequent promotions. Once it gave up, I naturally bought another, but it died on me in a few months, and was replaced with another one, which did the same. I wanted something sturdier, and more reliable. This one has seen daily use since April, and hasn't let me down. The outer surface does get very hot, as other reviewers have stated, but the pluses far outweigh this one minus. I've been very well satisfied with it's performance and would recommend it to any tea-drinker.
