Customer Review: Same as GE brand

This kettle is EXACTLY the same as sold under the GE brand label. I bet if we could track the manufacturing trail we would find the EXACT same factory, just different labels and boxes. The GE model is at Wal-Mart stores for just 39.95. TWENTY DOLLARS LESS.
The kettle works great! It's stylish and matches my other countertop appliances. It is well constructed, looks good and feels good in the hand. It's very light when empty and easy to handle. It does not require any special alignment on the base. Just fill it to where you need to, place it on the base and engage the on switch. The on/off switch is large enough for easy use and glows blue when on.
I boiled the max fill level of water in 6:30 minutes.
At the minimum fill level it took 3:25 minutes.
The kettle can be operated with the lid open. I don't know why you would want to, just thought I'd mention it.
Note that the exterior does get 'boiling hot.' Use the handle and don't touch the metal pot. Duh.
The auto shut off feature engaged properly. But having read numerous reviews prior to making my selection, I would never suggest a person completely leave the house with the kettle running. The boil cycle can easily be intrupted by lifting the kettle off the base, or disengaging the on/off switch. The switch is located in an out of the way position but still easy to reach and use without feeling like you will get burned.
(Personally, I unplug all appliances when not in use to prevent the electric vampires from sucking power and inflating my utilities.)
The filter screen behind the spout keeps boiling water from leaping out before the shut off engages, so the screen is serving two purposes.
The opening is too small to put your hand in for cleaning, so a bottle brush will be necessary. But perhaps the small opening is a slight safety feature. Final dislike is the measurement marks. Only in metric. I would prefer cups and ounces and will probably use a permanent marker to indicate my perfect jumbo tea cup.
Well, this kettle replaces an old Rival pot that finally wore out after ten years (wow). As of right now, it looks like a product that will serve my needs for several years.
