I bought this slicer after very extensive comparison. I wanted a slicer with a stronger motor, but was undecided if I really needed the tilt feature. This slicer is very well made. It cuts meats very thin. I thought I would need to buy the optional blade for thin cuts, but the blade it comes with has worked perfectly for me. I have cut up ham and meat roasts. The taste is wonderful, not to mention the cost savings. I also have cut thick steaks (the ones at Costco) thinner to make steak sandwiches. The tilt feature is advertised to gravity feed vegetables. I use if for meat as well because the food falls away from the blade. It is much safer and I can cut a large amout before I need to remove the accumulating pile of cut food. I highly recommend this product. I was also very concerned that cleaning could be so time-consuming that it might cause me to not use the product as often. This is not the case, clean-up is a breeze and can be completed in less than 10 minutes.
Description of Chef's Choice 645 International Professional Electric Food Slicer VariTilt
Operating either upright for meats and cheeses or easily tilted 30 degrees to "gravity-feed" vegetables, fruits, and bread to the blade, this food slicer makes it easy to prepare sandwiches for the family and the soccer team or prepare food for preserving in large quantities. The 130-watt condenser motor operates quietly and the carriage travels smoothly. The slicer's 7-inch surgical stainless-steel blade removes for cleaning and sharpening. A thickness adjustment knob calibrated in millimeters permits slicing from paper thin to about .6 inch. The slicer's open design permits access for large trays and platters to be situated directly under the blade. (A plastic tray is included.)Safety features include a hidden, childproof switch that prevents the slicer from being turned on, and an automatic on/off switch plate on the food carriage so the slicer shuts off as soon as the hand releases pressure. The parts disassemble easily for cleaning. Made of cast aluminum and stainless steel, the slicer weighs 13 pounds and measures 14 inches wide, 10.4 inches high, and 11-1/4 inches deep. It carries a five-year warranty against defects, with a 10-year warranty on the motor. --Fred Brack
