Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Champion Commercial Juicer G5-PG-710 - BLACK MODEL (MAR-48C)

Customer Review: easy, durable, great for multiple glasses daily
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember seeing Champion juicers in organic co-ops I entered with my mother when I was young (Santa Cruz, CA, early 70s). Thus I guessed them to be durable machines, if the same basic style is still in service today. So when I noticed how many customers complained about other juicers breaking down quickly, I bought the Champion. I couldn't have made a better choice.

It probably takes twice as long to juice an orange as it would in a Breville--but 2x isn't minutes here, it's seconds. And because it juices by mastication, the final product probably has a higher nutrient content (via cell wall destruction) than a centrifuge-based juicer.

All components slip together easily and logically; an attachable funnel comes with the machine for feeding berries and nuts.

I had a Jack La Lane juicer 7-8 years ago; I found cleaning to be difficult (at the time JLL machines used a flimsy plastic strip for the centrifuge). With the Champion, I can dissasemble and clean everything (high-end polymers and stainless steel) in about 45 seconds.

It's a heavy machine, due to the GE-manufactured 1/3 hp motor. But that's also the final reason why I chose it. As an energy tech analyst, I know that GE motors last forever in small appliances, and the Champion is manufactured in Lodi, CA. That means I'm assured of excellent customer service (I'm now in Washington, D.C) if the need should ever arise.

Update: It has now been almost two years since I first bought this juicer, and it still works perfectly. Sometimes I juice large quantities of greens and other fruit/veggies on the weekend, and freeze them for breakfast throughout the week. I do have to clean out the armature for every, oh, four cups of juice I make. But that takes less than a minute and I'm up and running again. I honestly don't find cleaning to be an issue. If I'm juicing large quantities of greens (collards, kale, parsley) the fine fibrous material eventually clogs the armature and causes the motor to warm up. But by the time I've cleaned and reassembled (seriously, less than a minute) it's cool.

Customer Review: Excellent Juicer
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the few negative reviews here I could not help but think the person using the juicer was inexperienced and doing something wrong. I have owned a Champion juicer for about 20 years. I juiced everything for myself, my children, and husband and never had a problem.

Feeding vegetables or fruits into the juicer should be done at an even speed, not too fast and not too slow. And trying to juice only greens with nothing else to help them through will not work well, nor should anyone expect it to. A little common sense makes for a good juicing experience.

It is not messy, as someone has said. I use a 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup under the juice spout and a small bowl at the end for the pulp. Nothing spills out and you can tell at a glance how much juice you have. If pulp is still very wet, feed it back into the spout and you get more juice and dryer pulp.

Cleanup is a breeze. When I juice for myself I drink the juice while I clean the parts. Cool water and a bottle brush is all that is needed. It takes about 2 minutes. Put a little olive oil on the metal spindle for ease of assembly and that is it.

Though I usually only make juice, I have made peanut or almond butter and coconut milk in the Champion, with no problem. It is messier to clean up of course, but it does a good job of processing.

The reason I chose a Champion is because all my friends had them and loved them. That is the best recommendation and I am delighted that I chose this brand.

Customer Review: Best juicer around
Summary: 5 Stars

I tend to like electronics to be simple and do one thing well. The Champion juicer fits this profile perfectly. It is not small, nor light but it does what it is supposed to do efficiently and quickly! Easy to put together and clean, the juicer can make everything from citrus and veggie juice to nut butters, sorbets and soups. With a simple attachment you can turn it into a grain mill as well. I chose to get the black version since the white one would eventually get fairly stained from carrot-berry juice. I love that I can make ginger juice without peeling the ginger. I have friends who have had their juicers for over a decade and have had no issues what so ever. It has no bolts or screws to lose, and clean up basically involves my compost bin and an rinse under COOL water only. It leaves the pulp really dry, which can be used later if you make raw foods. It runs really quietly.

It is rather large (about a foot long and 8 inches wide)and definitely something you probably just want to leave on the counter.

I am so happy with my Champion. If you are serious about having a juicing tool for more than just citrus, this should be in your top 5 to choose from.

Customer Review: Best of Breed!

A friend's parents fell in love with frozen banana & pineapple smoothies that they had in Hawaii, and noted that the Champion juicer was all that was used in making this favored treat.

I recently was fortunate enough to try out the frozen creations. The frozen banana is delicious - add nothing else but a frozen banana to the juicer, and you have a perfect creamy dessert! Same with pineapples and other fruits.

Yesterday, I opened up a Champion Juicer under the Christmas tree. Found a few apples that were lying around, and the juicer in seconds had a jarful of tasty foamy juice. We took some grapes that were not going to get eaten, and threw those in the juicer as well, and had a perfect glass of grape juice.

I highly recommend this juicer - cleans in about 2 minutes, and is very easy to operate.

EDIT: 2/28/2011: Five years later and the Champion is still going strong! This thing stands up to the test of time. Still churning out frozen concoctions and juices of all kinds.

Customer Review: Everything I Have Ever Wanted In a Juicer!
Summary: 5 Stars

WOW. Do not be dissuaded by the reviews on here that say this juicer is messy, hard to clean, etc.
I am thinking that perhaps those folks did not have it assembled correctly, or used too small of a container to catch juice and pulp...we used a glass mixing bowl to catch the juice and a large pickle jar for the pulp and it works wonderfully. It is quite a breeze to clean, use cold water and do it very soon after use. There are only about 5 (easily accessed) parts to clean, none of which require special brushes or tiny hands. This juicer is a joy to use. It is sturdy, heavy, quality. It will make nut butter and even juice wheat grass. It comes with a wonderful little guide with some detailed, in depth instructions on juicing certain produce. This juicer is the real thing. Buy this one once and save yourself the trouble of replacing janky ones.
