I had just bought a new house and I wanted a nice new shiny vacuum cleaner to clean it with. Cost and perceived value were my main considerations. I try hard not to buy junk but I didn't feel the need to have the best available either. In the past I owned one of the Hoover brand vacuums and I didn't really like it, it worked but I decided I wasn't going to buy another all plastic, heavy, and bulky vacuum again. I also had previously owned the eureka boss, I liked that one quite a bit. It was inexpensive when I bought it, it was slim and not at all bulky (good weight balance) and I thought it did a good job cleaning. The two drawbacks for me, the two-piece plastic handle (not that big of a deal) and the soft vacuum bag container (it passed a small amount of dust). I wanted to find something better this time so I used the reviews I found on this site and some others to make my purchasing decision. I purchased the Carpet Pro CPU-2 back in February 2009 and have been mostly pleased with it. It was cheaper in price than most, it cleans well (it holds the dust and dirt very well, as someone else made comment on earlier you don't smell anything you have vacuumed emitting from this vacuum cleaner), it seems to be constructed very well (it feels compact and solid with more metal in it than the more commonly available vacuums) and it's holding up in use just fine. My two dislikes are the handle grip (a cheap piece of foam rubber that will need to be replaced) and the power cord (for home use it's way to long and heavy and you end up fighting it when you wrap it up to put it away, it will turn into a twisted tangled mess). I do feel the power cord is a problem but I still haven't found another vacuum anywhere close to this price that I believe would be as good as it is overall.
