I have a Golden Retriever puppy we got we she was only a couple months old. She sure was cute, but boy could she get into trouble (have you seen "Marley and Me")?? We ended up buying about 10 different gates to close off every area of our large home! This one is my favorite, and here's why:
* Swing-open door is easy to use and means no more stepping over gates!
* Nice looking compared to plastic or collapsible wood gates.
* Good quality construction, sturdy gate, well made.
* "Kitty door" lets my cat get away from the dog during daily high speed chases!
* Metal gate means my puppy can't eat it! (you should see the wood chairs!)
Now that my puppy is a little over a year old, I can see we will need gates for the foreseeable future, and I am going to get rid of some of the others I bought, and pick up several more of these. I do agree with other reviewers that the kitty door is too big, because our puppy would go through it occasionally until she hit about 55 pounds, and then one day she got stuck halfway through the gate! I have since closed the kitty door, but sawed off one of its metal posts as was suggested by another reviewer so that the opening is big enough for the cat, but way too small for the dog. Another thing I did to make the gate more secure was use some small plastic furniture glide cups (the kind made for protecting a wood floor from scratches) and screw the cups into the wall on either side of the gate, so that each of the gate's 4 pressure mounts is held inside a small plastic cup. This ensures the gate will not get knocked down even if someone accidentally runs into it.

OMG, I wish I had gotten one of these AGES ago! I have a Dachshund and a Shih-Tzu and we were using boards that we had to step over to block off door openings. The Shih-Tzu had developed a severe fear of thunderstorms and rain and has now figured out how to defeat every blocking device we tried, to the point of managing to shove the heavy board and whatever we put in front of it far enough away from the wall to slip through. We had tried one of the cheap wood pressure type baby gates but we have high baseboards and since the top and bottom weren't independently adjustable like this one is it didn't work, the dog squeezed underneath, and he chewed on the wood! Well.....he isn't getting past this gate! Super easy to install (read the directions first!), fits very securely! We don't need the small pet door but it's a handy feature for those who do. My husband has bad knees and was tired of stepping over boards, so this gate with the door that opens is great! I was worried about the opening to walk through being on the small side per some reviews (we're big people.....ok, we're fat) but we have no trouble going through the opening just by turning a little. Beats stepping over boards! We bought this to try it out in one space and we have another space where we can use one also. Very happy with this product and am ordering the second one. Needing to keep a new four legged senior adoptee and since we often are the caretakers of our Grandogs... all a little exciting in reference to house training.... I decided to purchase a gate to keep all "kids" on a tile floor for ease of cleaning and still have them not feeling they were out of the loop with the family. I found this unit and decided that the price was reasonable and would solve the issue. Ordered the gate and it arrive quickly. Was easy to install and has be just the ticket! Seems very durable and looks very nice. If there was any down side, it was that we did need an extension since the opening was a bit wider than the gate would span. One was available but through Target... so I ordered it, price was a bit more than I would have expected but I guess the worst issue was the extra shipping, which was definetly more than my comfort zone. I would have appreciated and it would seem only reasonable if I could have purchased the extension from the gate supplier and been able to take advantage of a combined shipping charge. Hummm, feels like collaboration to me. Oh well, the gate is a good value. I would highly recommend it, just hope you don't need the extension.Customer Review: Perfect gate for pets

We bought two of these gates to confine our new puppy to our kitchen. One of our two doorways was 45" wide, and this gate fit it perfectly. The installation was extremely simple; just be sure to thoroughly read the installation instructions. I love being able to open the gate door and walk right through. The gate is tall enough that I'm sure our puppy will never be able to jump over it, too. Well, she's a small puppy, so a larger dog might be able to jump it--but he would have to be a very good jumper. The gate looks very nice, too.
My only problem was that our puppy was so small, she could easily slip right through the bars. As a temporary solution, we attached some of those wire-grid shelves to the outside of the gate with tie-wraps (the 12"-by-12" type of shelves that you snap together with round connectors--usually used in kids' rooms). Our puppy is 14-weeks old now (only 5 lbs., though), so she should be big enough in the next few weeks to remove those grids.
All-in-all, this is an excellent gate for pets. The price was really good compared to those I found on some of the pet-supplies web sites, too.

I purchased this gate to place in my living room doorway to keep in my 14 month old visiting granddaughter, but let the cat escape when he felt the need. It was easy to install, but I ran into a problem with my doorway. There is a trim detail on the wall, and that prevents the ends of the threaded spindle rods from sitting flat on the wall. I decided to give it a try anyway since I would be in the room w/ her. Before she came to visit, the cat and I gave it a test run, and he got the idea and went right through the first time. We were most surprised (and highly amused) when my "webble shaped" granddaughter followed him right through on her first visit.-YIKES. The gate only opens in one direction, so before you install make a choice. My 4 1/2 year old grandson can open the gate w/out any help, even if the "lock" tab is engaged, less getting up for grandma. As with all presure/open gates there is a bar on the bottom so you must be careful walking through.
