I ADORE this knife set! I received this as a gift for Christmas. The knives themselves are very nice. They are solid stainless and very sharp. The nice part is that they are one solid piece, so the handles will not break, chip, or separate (the plastic from the metal). Some people complain that the stand it a cheap plastic. I think that it feels sturdy. Unless you plan on using your knife holder for something other than it's intended purpose, it's perfectly sturdy. The ONLY thing I have experience was when I was putting it together. If you tighten the feet to the base too tight then the plastic will try to separate, this isn't a product issue-it was my fault for being overzealous putting it together. I like the fact that the knives don't just dangle out of the back either. There is a protective clear sheath that they sit in that supports and protects them. We have put the knives in the dishwasher and they have come through fine. I should mention that my husband and I are only casual cooks, so we do not give our utensils a whole lot in the way of wear and tear. So, I cannot speak for a hardcore cooking enthusiast on this one (I imagine that if you are really into cooking that you have invested in a set of Henckels or Wusthof knives).
Aesthetically, this is a great piece. It looks less like a knife set and more like some weird modern art sculpture for the kitchen. I have gotten several funny looks and compliments about this set. I like the color, the red really stands out (we have a black and stainless kitchen.) I definitely recommend this set. The knives are nice and the set is a fun addition to the kitchen.

I bought this item for my mother as a Christmas gift. She saw it in a store in Italy on a trip with my grandmother, but the store was closed. I had found it on thinkgeek.com and used my universal wishlist to find it on amazon, since i did not know the name of it.
The knife holder is amazing. My mom loves it. It will always get a reaction and start a conversation. Lionel, the family's go-to-guy for everything, is afraid of it. I guess he thinks it is some sort of voodoo talisman. Ha! Everyone comments on the knife holder when visiting my mom's kitchen. She is so proud of her new gift.
I personally like the easy set-up and the knife sheaths. The knife sheaths are great because they protect the knives and no one will accidentally get hurt.

My wife and I bought this for our mother-in-law because we thought it was funny. It's been 3 years, and it continues to be in use.
The "knife block" is fairly light-weight; but once you put all the knives in, there's enough weight there to keep the block stable on the counter.
The knife was super sharp when at first. Over three years, the chef's knife has gotten noticeably less sharp (My mother-in-law does not have a knife sharpener/honing bar), but is still quite functional. The knife is pretty well balanced and comfortable.
And, that's good, because while you get this because it's interesting and funny, for the money you spend, you'd want it to be useful for a long time.

I bought this for a current partners xmas pressie after he found out recently during our relationship all that his ex wife had got up to during theirs. I'm not sure how much something like this really helps to get over a painful relationship, but at the end of the day if you can get a laugh at their expense then it's worth it's weight...and it sure makes a great conversation piece. Great quality knives too, however we have decided to keep ours more of an object d'art, as you do have to be careful when replacing the knives in their slots that their ends dont scratch the holder. Great price too @ $60 here compared to over $150 locally where I initially considered buying it.Customer Review: Great Set of Basic Knives With Unique Display Stand

I bought this for my girlfriend for her birthday- we both have a somewhat twisted sense of humor- but since we live together I've used it as much as her. Obviously, the main thing that caught my attention at first was the display stand, and I was half affraid that I was going to end up paying too much for cheap knives and a whimsical gimmick. But this is a decent set of knives- as good as I'd expect for $70. The stand takes up more counter space than a traditional wooden knife block, but I expected that. The stand is pretty solid and it has magnets at the entrance to each sheath that helps guide the knives in smoothly. I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase.
