This is an outstanding cooking tool. For the first time I made a perfect batch of fudge! This tool is worth the price, if just not to hve to worry about how my fudge tunrs out.
Customer Review: Thermometer Summary: 5 Stars
This product arrived promptly, and in perfect condition. I was buying it as a gift for someone, and they LOVED it!
Customer Review: Does not start at 75 degrees Farenheit as described Summary: 3 Stars
Under "Product Details" Amazon describes this thermometer as having a,
"Temperature range 75 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (25 to 200 degrees Celsius)."
This is not correct. The lowest marking on the temperature gauge is 100 degrees Farenheit.
I cannot comment further - I didn't test its functioning - returning to seller for a refund, so I can buy a thermometer with a range that better suits my needs.
Customer Review: Completely Ineffective Candy Thermometer Summary: 1 Stars
When I bought this item I attempted to test it in hot water. My only comparison was another grocery store thermometer which wasn't accurate. It appeared to register better than the grocery store model. However, when using it to make chocolate fudge, by the time it registered 225 degree's, the fudge was thickening in the pan, not a pretty sight. I used it correctly and it has been stored according to manufacturers direction. It has a 5 year Limited Warranty for replacement. I don't feel it's worth the trouble to send back as I don't want another of this brands products, ever. It's going in the garbage as I attempt to find an accurate, well calibrated candy thermometer.
Customer Review: Not recommended for candy Summary: 1 Stars
This themometer needs a lot of liquid to register the temperature. By design, it needs a straight sideded pan filled with plenty of liquid. Candy cooking does not usually meet these requirements. It should not be described as a candy thermometer. It might work fine for some deep fry applications but the one I received is off by about 4 degrees compared to a Thermopen (a highly accurate general purpose thermometer). I would not have purchased if I had known these things.
