Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of CDN PT1A Digital Timer/Clock 4 Event ProgrammableCustomer Review: Best 4 event timer Summary: 5 Stars
This is the second of these I have bought. The first one lasted for years and was used most days. It is one of the simplest to use, has a long, loud ringer, long lasting battery, and I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Awesome assistant for any project Summary: 5 Stars
I had one of these for years when something in the battery compartment didn't fit snug anymore. After finding it again online at Kitchen Kaboodle for 19.95 including shipping, I am back on track!
Customer Review: 4 event timer Summary: 5 Stars
These are Great! So handy and helpful and work like a champ.
I had one for years and misplaced it during a move.
Was thrilled to find the exact same timer on Amazon.
Customer Review: Very useful and durable Summary: 5 Stars
We had one of these timers before and after a long time, it quit working. We were happy to find it again on Amazon.
Customer Review: better with time Summary: 4 Stars
I want to like this product yet there are too many quirks with it that take away from the efficiency it should provide if well designed.
One of these quirks is the counterintuitive user interface which appears to be created by a left-hander, whereas most devices would have a start-stop button on the rightmost side, when on this timer it is on the left.
The low sound of the timer is also a relevant concern, not that it cannot be heard though it may be drowned out by other noise or when concentrating on something else because it remains a background noise, versus demanding attention by being an alarm that makes enough sound to place itself in the foreground of awareness.
Also, while it should be possible to save settings and the like, because of the strange (at least to my sense) button placement, I tend to zero out the saved time by pressing the wrong button, in simply trying to hold the timer. And yes, the display is small and hard to read as well.
Yet- it is one of the few multi-timers around and because there are strangely few if any better alternatives - those that were for some reason are taken off the market - it either provides a semi-workable solution or requires use of multiple single use timers which would be much more maddening.
The timer indeed works though is only minimally satisfactory due to a subpar design. It is difficult to imagine a better product could not be made available by the same company with only a little more effort and user testing and at the same price point.
UPDATE (2/25/11): It was realized after using the timer more that there is a saved timer setting though it did not seem to be mentioned in the manual if remembering correctly. Basically if you are in countdown mode and press T1-T4 to select a specific timer to activate, then punch in the time (say 20 minutes) and then press Enter it will then show this as the number for a specific timer, say T1. My experience was that after setting the time and activating it, then having the alarm sound, it would reset the T1 time to zero. And so it requires resetting each of the four timers every time you want to use them repeatedly for regular events. Then it was discovered that by pressing the T1-T4 key twice in succession, (i.e. T1 T1) that the stored time reappears and zero is actually not the saved state. This is huge because the timer regains its basic functionality - important enough to change my 3 star review (without knowing about this functionality) to a 4 star review to be fair. I like the timer a lot more and recommend it as a multitimer with some quirks.
