Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of CDN PT1A Digital Timer/Clock 4 Event Programmable

Customer Review: Does the job, but the alarm is not very loud.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm trying to strengthen my time regimen and one of the methods suggested was to use a timer throughout the day. I wanted something that would time at least two events: one being the task at hand, the other being the length of my work day remaining to hopefully discourage wasting time with web browsing and the like.

The CN PT1A had good reviews and four separate timers and was attractively priced.

It is all that I want.

Setup is extremely simple. Just drop the battery in, set the clock and you're ready to go. The timers may be set for count up or count down and each is capable of timing a 100 hour long event by minutes and seconds. You can program all four channels with different times and start them at the same time or independently.

The unit is about 3.5 x 2.5 inches.. It has a magnet on the back, which I wouldn't put too much faith in. My unit slid a little way down the refrigerator. I suspect that a slamming door would cause it to fall further. It also has a little easel and that works well, though the viewing angle is not optimum for viewing the LCD. The controls are well laid out, spacious and easy to navigate. Construction is obviously on the low-end, but seems sturdy so far.

The only drawback is the volume of the alarm. As might be expected, the volume is not as loud as one might want. I have some hearing loss and I doubt that I could hear this unit from ten feet away, less if a fan, microwave or other appliance were operating. I don't deduct any points for this, since I'll be using the unit on my desk. Someone busy in the kitchen with appliances whirring away might find the low alarm volume a showstopper. Because of my hearing loss, I'm not the person who can make that kind of call.

Anyway, if you have two or more activities to time, this is an excellent little unit.

Customer Review: Great timer!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted a timer with numbered buttons like a calculator on it, but I found there weren't any with good enough reviews to convince me to spend the money on them. Then, I found this one and the event presets intrigued me. I time things frequently for 2, 5, 10 or 20 minutes, so this would be very handy! At least I would only have to repeatedly hit the Minute button initially, then I could program the time to an event preset and have one-button timers!

Out of the box, I inserted the batteries and found the LCD panel displayed garble. I removed the batteries, checked polarity, reinserted them and it seemed to work fine. I had it right the first time, so I don't know why it behaved that way. Oh well, it works now!

I was initially concerned that I'd have to actually read the manual (God forbid) to use it, but I decided to try it first and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use. I've had it now for about 2 weeks and I still haven't read the manual or tried any other functionality except the event presets. But, that part (at least) works great! I set it up by switching it to Program, then set the presets to 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 20 minutes. Now, instead of repeatedly hitting the Minute button or even pressing 2-0-0-0 each time I want to set the timer for 20 minutes, I just hit T4, then Start! Very cool! It beeps after the preset time and begins counting up. I hit stop, clear and it's ready for next time.

I can also hit T4 (for instance) and 20:00 is displayed. If I hit the Hour or Minute buttons, I can add to the time. If nothing else, it saved me 20 presses of the minute button.

It does what I bought it for and I'm happy with it!

Customer Review: Best timer ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned a lot of timers in my time and I have settled on this one, since it appears to be a clear notch above all others I have tried (about 5 or 6, at least). I now own four: one at work, two for my and my wife's meditation and one for the kitchen.
It is not necessary to need to time 4 things simulaneously to find this timer handy. I usually time my cooking for 5 min, 10 min, 15 min or 30 min, so it is simple to switch between. If I need to time for 7 min, then I just hit the preset for 5 and add 2 minutes to it without losing the preset. It is that easy.
It is intuitive and easy to set the times or instantly change them on all four timers.
As for switching between modes, it is unecessary to switch away from the program mode, if you primarily do countdown timing for cooking, etc.
The only change I would request would be to have it powered by the easy to find AA or AAA batteries, but so far I have been always able to track down a compatible disc battery.

Customer Review: Just one caveat...
Summary: 5 Stars

No doubt, for the multi-tasking chef this is it. Pie in one oven, turkey in the other, rice simmering on the burner, etc., you will love this thing. Clip it to your apron, stick it to the stove with its magnet or free stand it. Perfect for the easily distractable chef with lots of company. One caveat... They only last a year or so but maybe that's because I use them hard. I've owned at least 4 in the past and am buying another 4 right now(2 for me and 2 for stocking stuffers)because when the one I own dies, I'm lost. I wish they lasted longer but as long as they make 'em I'll keep buying 'em. I've tried others, no comparison. Do yourself and someone else a favor, get two. One for you and give one to a friend.

Customer Review: Digital Timer Unit
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used this product (2-units) for many years now and actually use all of the functions. It's a great unit. You can clip it on your waist/belt, stand it up on a horrizontal surface or carry it in the palm of your hand. Its clip also has a magnet for positioning on metal surfaces. I use it mainly for exercise workouts but also in the kitchen. Has a large readout for those like me who don't see as well as I used to. So when I broke one of them and could not find anything in my community that was close to having the functionality of this unit, I found the exact unit on Amazon and bought two more so that I would have a spare.
