Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brother ES2000 77 Stitch Function Computerized Free Arm Sewing Machine

Customer Review: Seems great
Summary: 4 Stars

Got this for my wife for Christmas this year. I did a lot of research and reading before buying this thing. I learned a lot about sewing machines that I didn't care to know. This things has made her very happy so far. I'm not sure why there are any negative reviews for this machine, aside from the occasional bad unit. But that happens with every product ever made, there is always a bad few that roll off the line. I didn't go with Singer because of the rumors surrounding their current quality levels so I stuck with Brother. She is not dissapointed at all, in fact the opposite. She is elated with all the fun different stitches this thing does. She got out an old dress and just started testing this thing out on it. She showed me like 20 different But to her it's killer. Drop in bobin is perfect she says, automatic needle threader works as advertised. No tension problems like some people may say. She says that anyone that has problems with this machine must not know what they are doing. She is not an expert seamstress by any stretch, but she says this thing is easy as pie to use. Highly recommended by her.

Customer Review: my new brother...best sibling ever
Summary: 4 Stars

i near pounced on my brown santa when he brought my package (aka UPS guy), and boy am i happy. I've never sewed so this was a big investment for me. It's a great size, very pleasing to the eye and all the little accessories are cool, once i figure out what to do with them.

For a complete beginner the instructions were horrible. The manual is for many brother products, so i didn't know which section to follow... (e.g do i have a fast wind bobbin? automatic needle threader thing? i had no idea...) and I'm still working out the thread tension. For beginners like me, take your time, read the thing over and over and play with it a while.

The machine itself is great, I already made curtains for my bed and my athlete boyfriend gave it a try. For the price, it's really unbeatable...especially if you look at the price it originally retailed at.It's not too heavy which is great, and the lcd screen controls the stitch width and you can plug in what stitch you want. I went to Stitches on capitol hill (Seattle) and the owner had bought a whole bunch of this particular model for her customers to use. Guess it's a good sign.

Customer Review: Great sewing machine value
Summary: 4 Stars

I highly recommend this sewing machine. I purchased it in January, but wanted to use it awhile before writing a review. Since then, I've used it to make 5 large drapery panels and it's been a wonderful machine. Several of the panels I made were lined and made of heavy fabric and the machine handled it well. I experienced a couple jams on the really thick folded over portions, but nothing that wasn't easily fixed.

This is the first computerized machine I've used. I was accustomed to an old heavy duty Singer. It felt very light at first, but I've grown to like that aspect -- it's much easier to put it away when not in use. The machine was easy to learn; it had a very clear instruction manual. My favorite features so far are the blind hem stitch and the self-threading needle.

Customer Review: A simple, efficient machine
Summary: 4 Stars

This machine came with a very easy-to-follow setup instruction. It's been over 10 years since I used a sewing machine last time, yet I was able to start using the machine in no time.

I've been having trouble with getting the thread tension balanced between upper and lower thread, with occasional E-6 error and skipped stitches for the zig-zag pattern. Wondered if it is a machine defect and got a replacement, but same problem on the new one. It appears that this tension problem occurs to me only when I try to sew stretch-able materials, such as cloth from a fitted cotton T-shirt.

The machine has been working fine for a regular cotton and fleece type of cloths. Giving 4 stars overall as a easy entry level machine.

Customer Review: Good machine for price
Summary: 4 Stars

I was looking for an inexpensive sewing machine to sew craft items, and to sew through thick fabrics. This machine was a replacement for a machine that would have cost more to repair than to replace. I also wanted to try a computerized model, but just needed basic stitches. The top loading bobbin is definitely a bonus, and the machine's light weight is also a plus. I still have not figured out how to use the self-threading function. The machine does struggle a bit with the thickness of fabric layers I am sewing, but it still gets the job done.
