Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brother CS6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine

Customer Review: Best new machine for the money!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a quilting instructor for years and a few years ago I was researching for a good machine to use in my classes with certain specifications: easy to use and transport, dependable and durable. So when I was visiting a local quilt shop during a class, I asked if there was an affordable machine the quilters would recommend. I figured they would know if anyone did! :) Unanimously, the Brother CS6000i was the recommendation. So I asked my hubby for this machine as a gift and he purchased it for me. I've had it over two years now and I have enjoyed it immensely; a really great experience all around. I have many machines (industrial machines, featherweight(s)to high-end Bernina's and this machine is everything I hoped for: needle-down/buttonhole stitch/easy bobbin winder/multiple speeds/lightweight... I could go on and on. I'm still amazed at the great price it was and I use it at class and at home now. I do highly recommend using good thread... if you are making something and spending the time and effort, good thread is worthwhile! Good thread is not overly expensive and your product is only as good as your materials. Bottom line: amazing machine for the price and I recommend it to new students confidently and often.

Customer Review: So far, beyond expectations!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was hesitant to purchase this because of the price compared to similar models/features in stores seemed too good to be true. I was in a pinch-in the middle of a project that needed to be completed quickly when the foot pedal for my Elna Club quit. It couldn't be repaired and the replacement cost was similar to the cost of the Brother machine. I figured I wouldn't be out any more and would at least have a back-up while I got my old machine squared away. Long story short, I love this machine and the Elna has gone to its final resting place. I was up and sewing in less than 10 minutes. I was making outdoor decorative pillows out of waterproof canvas prints and the machine flew through them without a hitch. I even used the built in stippling stitch to quilt one of the pillow tops. I am getting ready to do my first quilt on the new machine and am quite excited to use the walking foot, extension table and the quilting foot that are included to complete the project. The light is a drawback as it is not as bright as I would like, but that can be easily overlooked when compared to the ease of use and versatility that the machine offers. I would recommend this machine as it has proven to be a GREAT buy for the money!

Customer Review: AWESOME SEWING MACHINE
Summary: 5 Stars

I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS SEWING MACHINE. IT'S ACTUALLY MY FIRST MACHINE AND I COULDNT DECIDE IF I SHOULD PURCHASE IT OR NOT BUT AFTER READING ALL THE REVIEWS, I MADE UP MY MIND TO BUY AND HAVENT REGRET IT YET!!!! I'M A BEGINNER SEWER SO I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT A SEWING MACHINE... AFTER I REVIEWED THE MANUAL AND HOW TO OPERATE THE MACHINE- IT WAS EASY TO LEARN HOW TO SEW!!!! I'VE SEW MY FIRST TISSUE PACK HOLDER, DRAWSTRING BAG AND CLOTH NAPKINS. IF I CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN DO IT!!! THE MACHINE IS EASY TO USE AND CHANGE THREADS AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE AUTOMATIC THREADER AND THE DROP-IN BOBBIN. THE TENSION DIAL IS ALITTLE TRICKY TO GET USE TO BUT ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND HOW TO DETERMINE WHEN TO CHANGE THE DIAL TO GET THE RESULTS YOU ONE, IT'S A PIECE OF CAKE. I ALSO LOVE HOW EASY IT IS TO CHANGE THE DIFFERENT SEWING FOOTS. BROTHERS REALLY THOUGHT IT ALL OUT WHEN THEY CREATED THIS MACHINE ESPECIALLY FOR BEGINNERS WHO LITERALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER LIKE ME!!!! I'D DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO LEARN HOW TO SEW AND OR CONTINUE TO SEW- IT'S GOT 60 DIFFERENT STITCHES THAT I MAY NEVER USE THEM ALL BUT JUST TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEM IS SOOOOOO NEAT!!!!

Customer Review: Thank you Plein Jane!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this machine after reading the review by Plein Jane. What a great machine! It was so much fun to work with after my Singer (which sort of fell apart after only three small quilt projects). This machine has all the functions of the $1000+ Janome that I've been drooling over for a couple of years. For someone like me who cannot afford to spend that kind of money on a machine, and for those who can, this is the machine to buy. The only thing that could make it better is if it will work for me for many years. UPS needs to be more careful in shipping. The box it came in was pretty beaten up.

12-3-2010 UPDATE: Almost four years and many quilts/projects later I still LOVE this machine! I can't believe how it still works like it did the day I bought it. I noticed that someone gave it a bad rating based the bobbin case and the comment left on that one by someone else was dead on. This machine does not like cheap thread, but why would we want to put all that time and money into a project and use cheap thread anyway? If you're considering this machine I highly recommend it. If I ever wear mine out I hope Brother is still making them because I'm going to want another one just like it.

Customer Review: This is an amazing machine!
Summary: 5 Stars

After doing my fair share of research to get a machine with flexibility around various weights of fabric and ease of use, I purchased this one and am astounded with how easily it operates. I have not sewn since my days in 4-H and always got frustrated with the threading, knowing when to change out the needle, foot, and operating the stitch settings. This machine makes it sooo easy to change your stitches, and the visual display on the front shows you the exact stitches and the display screen tells you which foot to use so there is no checking the manual each time you need to change. The bobbin loads fast and easy, the threader is amazing (for those of you with less than perfect eyes!), and it's a snap to change the pressure foot. Sews buttons with ease (even huge ones). The machine is also surprisingly quiet. My only complaint would be that the hard case actually attach to the machine itself, but really that's not a biggie since it acts more as a dustcover. The table that comes with it (6000i model) is also handy as it has a measuring strip on the top. In an age when many products are flimsy or disappoint, Brother rises to the top in the sewing machine category. This ROCKS.
