Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brother CS6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine

Customer Review: Great machine, will make me a better sewer!
Summary: 5 Stars

I never knew how bad my old machine was until I used my aunt's machine. Ever since then, almost a year, I have been looking for a replacement. After much research, I was surprised to find that this inexpensive machine is the best reviewed on Amazon while other, more expensive machines had bad reviews. I was so happy when I added this machine to my cart and I was not let down when it arrived at my doorstep.

The first thing that I noticed was the light weight. It should be very easy to take this machine with me. Second, I set it up in my sewing room and it looked great. I resisted starting right away. I pulled out the manual and read it cover-to-cover, which I highly recommend, especially if you have not had a machine with so many functions before OR if you have never had an electronic machine.

Some other reviewers commented that they were unhappy that this did not include a 1/4 inch foot, but you can achieve a perfect 1/4 inch seam with the piecing stitch, I had already ordered a 1/4 inch foot which I don't really need now. After reading the manual, which is very comprehensive, I learned that I will be able to use my sewing machine to make me a better sewer. The stitching is so precise, the machine feeds so evenly, there is a specific stitch that will work best for each kind of difficult of fabric, and it includes all the attachments you will ever need.

Good-bye old machine, hello new beautiful Brother.

Customer Review: It's great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this machine after putting up with a Singer machine that worked when the mood struck it for close to 12 years. I was hesitant and pretty soured by the old machine. However with three boys a sewing machine is a must. I finally decided on this one because it didn't seem overly complicated but still offered some cool extras if I got a little more skilled. It is GREAT. I absolutely love it. I feel like I could actually use this machine for years to come. I am slowly starting to enjoy sewing again. The more I use it the more I realize I will have fun with the extras on this machine for years to come. It came with so many addtional pieces and the manual is easy to read and follow. The only problem I ran into was about a week after I bought it I broke the needle when it hit a pin. Changing the needle didn't seem to big a deal but as I was inserting the new needle I dropped it into the bottom of the machine. I think the odds of this happening twice are slim but still it happened. It took my husband about five minutes to take the bottom piece of the machine off and the needle fell right out. So it was an easy problem to address. That's it, the only issue I have had. I cannot wait to explore some of the various feet and stitches it seems capable of. This is a great machine for someone who can sew a bit but would like a little more. It is easy to use and seems very sturdy and well made.

Customer Review: Great machine for beginner
Summary: 5 Stars

I think this sewing machine is great. My daughter got it for Christmas and was in the middle of a quilt project when she got sick... too sick to finish it. She needed to get the project done, so I decided to help her. I've never in my whole life ever tried a sewing machine. So, I got out the manual and followed the directions step by step, and got the machine working with no problems whatsoever. I will say that I could NOT figure out the automatic threader, so I've been threading the needle the old fashioned way, which I just chalked up to inexperience. Anyway, I ended up finishing the quilt and then making 2 more! This thing sews through the fabric with no problem... 2 layers of fleece and a layer of warm and natural batting. Now I'm totally in love with sewing... it's great fun... and I'm very pleased with this sewing machine! Even though I personally don't have a machine to compare it to, my daughter took sewing lessons on a $1000 Husqvarna, and she said this Brother feels sturdier and the only difference she could tell was that there are fewer stitches to choose from. Also, this came with a little case full of feet and bobbins and a seam ripper and various other things. I doubt we'll ever use them since I don't have clue what they are, but I guess it's nice that they are there should we ever need them! I don't think you can go wrong with this for the price. It has been great for us!

Customer Review: A nice machine and a very good value.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this machine for about 6 months and have sewn several projects with it. I am not a person who spend his time sewing but the odd sewing project comes up and this machine is perfect for me. It has many stitches programmed into to it that makes sewing for me a breeze. It comes with enough attachments to give about anyone a terrific start right out of the box, just add thread and material and your off. I had very, very limited sewing experience before purchasing this machine and I find it to be very easy to set up and operate with a very quick learning curve. It is lighter than older sewing machines but I have not had any issues with the machine sliding or moving while sewing even large and heavier peices of material. I have tried all the accessories and options to see how they worked and I have not had any problem figuring out or using any of the options. Even the auto-threader works well. Another plus is that the few accessories that didn't come with the machine, are avaiable at a reasonable price to give you even more time saving flexibility. I can't imagine anything that this machine won't handle that any other machine of it's design would do. I expect my tools to work for me, I don't work for my tools. This machine is a great tool and a great value. It was everything that I was looking for at at a very reasonable price. I am very happy with my purchase.

Customer Review: Couldn't be happier! Perfect for complete novice!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this machine less than a month ago. Never stitched anything in my life, not even a button. Before I made my purchase, I did a good bit of research. I was looking for an item that was "middle of the road". Nothing too fancy, and yet, simple to use with enough features to last me a long time. This was it!

It has plenty of stitch options.
It comes with ALL the accessories that you need: different types of feet, a quilting table, etc.. You can buy additional accessories separately, but most of the ones you would want come with the machine, so there's no added expense there.
It uses standard size bobbins that you can buy in any sewing/crafts store.
The manual is very clearly written and walks you through everything you need to know to use your machine to it's fullest. It even comes with a quick reference guide to get started.
The machine itself is very easy to use. I don't know anything about sewing and found it simple and user friendly.
It has lots of little cool features like a fast bobbin winder, built in little cutting implements for thread so that you're not constantly grabbing for scissors as you thread the machine or remove the piece your working on.
I couldn't be happier with this purchase, and I hope you find this review useful when you're looking for your perfect sewing machine.
