Customer Review: Brother CS6000I Sewing Machine
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not a expert seamstress by any means, as I have only sewn the most simplest of children's dresses and shorts (and only with the help of my mother!), but I haven't bothered to learn to sew because of the sewing machine I already had. It gave me a lot of grief, and after spending entirely too long just trying to sew my kids a couple of "supergirl capes" I decided that if I was going to ever use a sewing machine again it had to be better than this old one of mine.

I picked the Brother CS6000I due to all the good reviews it got, and also the fact that it did not cost very much. It arrived 2 days after I ordered it and I have absolutely no complaints about it yet. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and have actually begun to sew my daughters some dresses (and more shorts) without my mom's help using this new machine. But when it first arrived I had to study it for awhile. I am the sort who has to read all the directions, instruction manuals and study something before I'm ready to try it. After doing so, I got some scrap cloth and started trying out the various stitches. I was very pleased! This machine ran like a top, did everything I asked it to and will easily sew through many layers of cloth. I tested it pretty good and afterwards had to call my mom to tell her how neat it was!

I like being able to take it with me, visually it is nice to look at, it tells me what presser foot to use on the stitches I select, and is pretty much dummy proof. It is so easy to load the bobbin and have the thread automatically come up. If you've used a dinosaur like my old one, that was a long and laborious task. Just the simple things on it save so much time and frustration. And something that I found to be incredibly neat was the fact that you can see the bobbin (through the clear plastic cover) and can know when it's getting low on thread. I hate sewing a seam and in the middle of it somewhere I run out of bobbin thread. That won't happen with this machine unless I just fail to look at the bobbin. I feel I made a very good purchase.

Customer Review: So happy with this machine
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a Brother and then went to a Viking. I broke my Viking after 4 years, but i never really loved it - the stitches were always a mess on the bottom and no one could tell me why. When i went to buy a new machine, the woman at Jo Ann was telling me how great the computerized Viking was, because of the fast/slow button, the ease of using it, the many stitches, and finally the table attachment (but that was additional $), She's getting an advanced degree in some kind of sewing/design and sews a lot. This machine was $579 and I was really considering it, even though I don't sew a whole lot anymore, but thinking maybe with this easy machine I would start. I've always been afraid of sewing on stretch fabrics, and she convinced me it was a breeze with the Viking. Well, I went on-line and found nothing but bad reviews on the Vikings! I found this Brother, which has all the same features and more, and had one great review after another. I ordered it and it was here 2 days later. The first time I used it, I was having trouble with the thread tension and thought I had loaded the bobbin correctly - which i had - but what I had done wrong based on the old type of machine was pulling the thread up with the needle - DONT DO THAT! I took a one-on-one session at our Brother repair center and learned the machine top to bottom (but it's all explained well in the book - I just like to learn visually and then re-reading makes more sense). It is the best machine I have ever had. My projects are mostly doll clothes, costumes and art projects. The stitches are neat, finally! IN fact, I had a half-finished doll pajama set that I finished immediately and you can tell what parts were sewn with the Viking and which were with the Brother, esp. on the top stitching. I look forward to sewing now. I love that you don't have to use the foot pedal and also love the fast/slow button - great for kids. You will not be unhappy with this purchase. Happy sewing!

Customer Review: Super Great Machine!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using my Brother CS6000i now for about 6 weeks and absolutly love it! I have an old basic Kenmore that I've had for many, many years but haven't done much sewing in many years either. Any time I needed something done it was easier to go to mom and let her do it! With a new granddaughter and great niece or nephew due soon, I was itching to get creative and get back into sewing. I wanted a machine that was economical but that would do about everything and this one has more than fulfilled my wishes. I read the reviews and did my research and kept coming back to this machine and I am very glad I did. The fact that it comes with all the attachments you could want was a big plus. It's very easy to use, the stitches are beautiful, it's light weight but doesn't jump around the table. My only peeve, and this is minor, is that it would be nice if the LED screen was lite up so that it was easier to read the stitch numbers. It's taken some time getting use to the fact that it does reset to the basic stitches when you turn it off. If I'm in the middle of the project and have to quit, I've learned to write down my settings so I can continue later. I love the fact that it tells you what presser foot to use with different stitches and the feet are so clearly marked with their identification letter and are so easy to change. The instruction book is well written and illustrated, which is a big plus to learning the machine features and using the different stitches. Everything about this machine is great. My mom is a professional seamstress and has profesionally sewn everything from baby things to bridal dresses and she was totally amazed at what this machine could do and how easy it was to operate. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone.

Customer Review: Don't let the low price fool you. This is a great machine!
Summary: 5 Stars

This machine represents the most incredible value-for-money on the market today. It is very, very easy to use, and the manual is exceptionally helpful. It comes with every foot and accessory you could ever possibly need. In fact, there is nothing more you can buy for it. Compare that to the other sewing machine manufacturers, which give you only the most basic feet and then you must purchase everything else separately. If you have been hankering for the convenience of fully computerized sewing, automatic needle threading, push-button sewing, and lots of fun stitches, don't hesitate. I highly recommend this machine. I've owned very expensive machines from all the top manufacturers, and would not recommend it if the stitches were not beautiful or if it were loud or junky. This was given to me as a gift (I'm ashamed to say I would probably have walked right past it because of its low price) and I love it so much, I have gone on to buy the Brother serger here on Amazon, and also a $999.00 Brother Innovis, which is another tremendous bargain. I was really pleased to see that even the more expensive machine uses the same bobbins and feet as this one, and this has many of the same features. This $200 machine comes iwth virtually all the same attachments as the $1000 one.

This is the machine that some of the larger sewing and quilting expos are using in their workshops now because they are so lightweight, easy to learn, and reliable. High end Berninas and Vikings are just too complicated for people to sit down and learn at in a classroom setting, and they are way too expensive. This machine is the Featherweight of the 21st century, with tons of stitches and fun built in. Go for it!!!

Customer Review: What I wanted and more
Summary: 5 Stars

I spent hours researching sewing machines online before ordering. I saw that this was one of the top machines on Consumer Reports and on Amazon.
I ordered it on a Friday night online from Amazon, and received it at my doorstep by 3pm on Monday with free shipping.
I am a very new to sewing.(I have had a 30 yr old hand-me-down Singer with just a couple basic stitch options tucked away in the closet that I have used on some curtains). I was wanting a machine to learn how to make some little quilts, do some hemming and alterations, and maybe sew some sun dresses for my daughters.
So far I really like:
A) Lightweight
B) Hard case to place over it to keep my children from messing with it
C) Display screen that informs me which presser foot is needed
D) Guides printed directly on the machine showing the proper threading of bobbin winding, bobbin threading, and upper thread threading
E) Little threading gadget that makes it so easy to thread the needle
F) Very nice manual that is easy to follow
G) Comes with a large quilting table
H) Very affordable- especially compared to similar models of other brands

Possible concerns:
A) The work light isn't very bright..but I am using it by a window
B) The presser foot lever and needle threader are plastic and do not seem very durable- maybe because the only other machine I have used was a metal tank. Not sure how they will hold up in the long run.

UPDATE: Had the machine for almost 3 months. I have made a few little blankets for my daughters, made the face for a twin size quilt (just haven't actually done the batting and back yet). So far, so good.
