Customer Review: The Best Embroidery/Sewing Machine for the money!

I bought my Brother in April 2008 and have been sewing on it daily for at least 3 hours every day since then. I've never had ANY trouble with it. It's a MUST that you also buy the PED Basic to go with your machine so that you can download designs from the internet. I've downloaded over 8,000 free designs so far, and that's just a "drop in the bucket". You're limited to 4 x 4 designs (that's the only drawback). The machine is very light weight and has accompanied me on many trips. You don't have to have special needles or special bobbins for this machine. It's VERY user friendly! The patterns that come with the machine are very high quality, as are the Alphabets. I'd like to have more fonts on the machine, but they are so easily accessible on the internet that this really isn't an issue. I will say that 40 weight rayon thread seems to work best (and use a bobbin thread when embroidering). When I finally wear this machine out, I'll probably go with another Brother machine.Customer Review: Great for beginners wanting to learn to embroider!

I got this machine because I wanted to personalize things I make for my baby boutique. I wanted to monogram and put names on burp cloths, etc. It did take a bit for me to learn all about stabilizers and how to hoop my items and such, but once I got that all down I love it! I can say that this machine is GREAT for beginners. I didn't want to fork out a bunch of money to discover I didn't like or couldn't embroider. I am glad I started with this machine. I can easily switch between sewing and embroidering and LOVE the sewing features on the machine. I haven't had any troubles with the embroidery side. Some say they have bobbin issues, but I haven't noticed any. I am using the correct bobbin embroidery thread so maybe that is their issue I dont know. I would definately say once you learn you'll probably want to get the PES card reader so you can do more designs. I had a set amount of money that I could use for a sewing machine and after much research I finally settled on this one. It comes with so many features that I thought it was the perfect choice for me. It comes with 7 feet so that you don't have to waste extra money buying attachments like you do with other machines.
There are only two things that would make this machine even better: a scanner so that you can embroider your own designs or a USB port so that you can upload your own designs. I know that would drive up the price to an insane amount though.
The best part of the machine is how easy it is to thread both the machine and the bobbin. There is no need for an extra bobbin threader unless you own a boutique. You don't even have to use the foot pedal if you don't want to. Thats also optional for better control.

The machine is just wonderful - for the price you want to pay it's the best deal of both sewing and embroidery you can get. Although the machine arrived in an open box, it works great and I have never had any problems with it. For somebody who has used a sewing machine before, this one is extremely easy to learn. In addition, this Brother's creation will be a dream for those who used to work on simple mechanical machines. Some its functions make your sewing life so much easier!And the embroidery unit is so pleasant and easy to work with. I am no professional, but felt like I had outgrown my very basic machine. Being quite budget conscious, I couldn't even be tempted by the Vikings and Berninas of the world so when I found this I thought it was a perfect blend of features and price. I like that I can experiment with monogramming and embroidery as well. The auto threader and auto cutter are awesome! So easy to use and so convenient. I've already purchased the PED-basic cord so that I could download more (free!) designs as well as more fonts.
So far, so good on this machine!
