Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus

Customer Review: Love It!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this product after reading all the positive reviews on Amazon and wasn't disappointed. It's a great product. Easy to use. The veggies slice very easily, no pushing and grunting as I did with another slicer I purchased earlier and returned. It's amazingly sharp and well designed so things slice quite effortlessly. I use it all the time for salad ingredients. I do carrots, fennel, onion and mango a couple of times a week for salad. My husband has used it many times for potatoes to make french fries. The only thing I had to be careful of was that if you are using the handle/pusher thing, you have to watch that you don't push the metal prongs into the blades as you are nearing the end of your slicing as your vegetable gets smaller and smaller. Actually, sometimes I use a fork if I only have a little piece of vegetable left and just push on it lightly, or just cut the rest up with a knife. All the pieces of the slicer fit into the container to stand on the counter and won't shake loose. I had looked at expensive stainless steel ones around $100 and thought I would have to buy that to have something work decently, but the V-slicer proved me wrong. It's great! It's not often I am impressed with kitchen gadgets either, most are a disappointment.

Customer Review: Surprising little mandolin
Summary: 5 Stars

Works just as it should. Easy to use, very durable, cuts fast and stays sharp. Not much else to say. Don't let the price deceive you. I have tried several different kinds over the years and this one beats the fancy expensive stainless ones, in terms of functionality.

I almost rated it 4 stars because the appearance is a bit lackluster. However, that would be doing it a disservice. 4 1/2 might be more appropriate, but I'll round up.

Customer Review: Affordable little wonder
Summary: 5 Stars

I really, really wanted a mandoline but just couldn't see spending well over $100 for one. Saw the reviews on this and thought I'd give it a try. What a terrific buy! I've had it for a year now. When I first tried it with a red onion, I complained that it wasn't doing anything since I didn't feel any resistance at all. To my surprise there was a pile of beautifully sliced red onions under the machine. No effort at all! After a year it still slices as effortlessly. Just sliced through 5 lbs of potatoes for gratins and home-made chips and couldn't be happier with the performance of this slicer. I don't care for the safety guide (personal preference) so I use a cut-safe glove to hold the food items for faster and more efficient slicing. The glove makes it much easier for julienne cuts since that does require a bit more effort and I seem to fumble with the safety guide. Use caution if washing by hand as it will slice your sponge or washcloth with ease! And the size is perfect so storage is easy. It's sits on my counter top next to the cannisters and no one realizes it's there. It does indeed have a bit of a cheap look to it so I hesitate to buy them for wedding gifts, but it really is a nice slicer!

Customer Review: Slices and dices everything but my fingers!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus is a great slicer. It does everything it's supposed to do and doesn't do what my last one did, which is take hunks out of my careless fingers. The safety features alone make it worth twice the price.

Customer Review: easy to use and safe
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm usually a little "blade phobic", but if used properly, this slicer is very safe and easy to use.... I have not gotten fancy with it, but tomatoes, cukes and onions slice up beautifully and quickly...clean up is easy too
