I use this V-slicer for at least an hour at a time, twice a week, and have since I bought it in January, 2009. It has proven very competent in slicing iceberg lettuce and green peppers very finely for shredded green salads (which are useful for dieting since they require less salad dressing, I think). Has worked great as well for julienning carrots, cucumbers and onions for a sweet and sour relish we eat all the time. I make a LOT of this and it is very easy with the V-slicer. It is quick and simple to slice potatoes for gratins and casseroles, too. I highly recommend this device... it is durable enough for my purposes and the variety of available cuts (thin, thick, small and large julienne) has proven more than adequate. PLEASE NOTE a bias that I have... I do NOT use the hand guard but ALWAYS wear a Kevlar, cut-resistant glove and am very careful. The guard worked as well as such things generally do, but I just prefer the protective glove.Customer Review: luv it luv it

i studied a lot of reviews and this one is everything it claims to be
use the safty holder and you will have no leftovers to cut by hand
clean up is a snap
the carrier is great and provides safe storage for the rest of the family

Maybe I'm just used to hand chopping/slicing on my cutting board, but I've tried to use it a several times & just didn't get the hang of it. Maybe if I could see someone else use it correctly I would catch on. I've thought about sending it back or possibly giving it to my daughter who's an excellent cook. Customer Review: Excellent

I loved my old Benriner. My my old Benriner had two problems that really bugged me: one was that the veggie holder to protect the hands was AWFUL. I mean, it was a JOKE. Seriously. The other thing is that the mandoline itself was too narrow for slicing something as common as onions (very annoying).
I was REALLY nervous about ordering this one. I could not tell for sure just how wide it is because the dimensions given were for "in the box" -- and I didn't expect much of the hand protector after reading a lot of the reviews here.
Now I got my V-slicer Plus and I LOVE it. The hand protector may not be PERFECT but it is a hundred times more useful than the little nearly-flat thing that came with my old Benriner -- the mandoline itself, out of the box, is just short of 4 inches width for slicing, but that extra 1/2-1" makes a BIG difference.
Lastly, I do love the way it slices, I WILL use the hand protector a LOT - (yea!!!) - and I'm thrilled with the little box in which I can store it, making it much SAFER in storage than my Benriner ever was. And by the way, I DO like the Benriner, which I would give 4 stars -- but this one is 5 stars in my book! As a raw foodist this will make food preparation MUCH more fun and creative for me now too.
