Customer Review: LOVE IT!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus
I have had 2 of these in the last 20 years and I just love mine!! I use it for everything... it saves so much time and effort in the kitchen... and when I make big batches of salsa it is really handy... the two sizes you get for dicing are just right for everything and I couldn't do without it... I don't think a day goes by that I don't have it out... I have given them as gifts! The only caution is... be careful..it is really very sharp. Sooo make sure and use the guard... I have loved mine soo much and thought if I could afford a professional version I would be thrilled... recently my husband bought me a very expensive metal mandoline and I was soo excited... it was not as sharp as the Borner! I took it back right away and am happy with my Borner as always... the blades are thin and the slicing is much easier... Believe me if you buy one you will be thrilled!

Customer Review: Absolutely the best slicer on the market!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought mine in 1989, and have used it several times a week ever since! Last Christmas my sons were visiting and were trying to slice pepperoni by hand with a knife. I told them to try my V Slicer. Both of them and their woves said it wouldn't work because they had tried it with their slicers. I said, awe, just try it anyway. All of them were shocked that it did the job just GREAT! The clean up is so easy (just a quick rinse under the fawcet) that I haven't cut an onion, celery, or potato for scalloped potatoes or hash browns with a knife in YEARS! I cook all the time, and I suppose the professional adjustable mandolines are a bit better, but they're also well over $150 and up! This great gadget was the best $$ I've spent for a kitchen tool in 18 years!

DO USE THE FOOD HOLDER THOUGH! I have had a few "incidents" when I was in a hurry and just figured I'd be careful. Blood on the white potatoes or onions really doesn't look good, plus that darn cut has to heal too!

Customer Review: mounted on door under my cabinet!

Hey folks, this is IT! I had one for 14 years until I finally wore it out. I make about 5 gallons of sweet pickles every year, sliced super thin, plus scads of fresh and pickled veggies. It was really durable and the blades stayed sharp. The waffler accessory is neat too but wore out in about 7 years. I'm wheelchair bound w/limited use of hands and this is GREAT. My kids grew up using it, started about age 5, never cut themselves and they're in college now, guess what's for Christmas? It slices lengthwise too which is very cool for deep-fried zucchini, carrot/celery sticks, french fries (sweet or idaho type potatoes, swedes, turnips, squash, loaf bread croutons, large items like jicama...haven't found a fresh fruit/veg I couldn't use except the winter squashes! Only thing I'd add would be a really sturdy non-slip ANGLED bread-pan type holder/catch basin for juicy fruits like tomatoes or cucumber, maybe with a lid?...HOPE BORNER LISTENS AND ADDS AS AN ACCESSORY!

Customer Review: Many of my knives just became obsolete
Summary: 5 Stars

I just unwrapped this thing, and after figuring out how to put the extra julienne blades back, am already in love with it.

I had some overly ripe tomatoes that I wanted to slice up for sandwiches and general snacking (why is it things always taste better bite sized or thinly sliced?).

It takes about two seconds to figure out how to use the safety handle to slam through a bunch of fruit or veggies. Within less than a minute, I had eliminated 3, soft skinned tomatoes in even super thin cuts that would have required sharpening my knife and much thicker, sloppier cutting than I would have preferred. The leftovers in the handle was minimal.

For cleaning, it was just a rinse immediately after using (as you should with any sharp kitchen tool to prevent scrubbing/injury).

If it can handle my kitchen nemesis of almost-worn-out-it's-welcome veggies, I'm sure oranges, potatoes and everything else will be a cinch.

Customer Review: Solid and practical
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this V-slicer for at least an hour at a time, twice a week, and have since I bought it in January, 2009. It has proven very competent in slicing iceberg lettuce and green peppers very finely for shredded green salads (which are useful for dieting since they require less salad dressing, I think). Has worked great as well for julienning carrots, cucumbers and onions for a sweet and sour relish we eat all the time. I make a LOT of this and it is very easy with the V-slicer. It is quick and simple to slice potatoes for gratins and casseroles, too. I highly recommend this device... it is durable enough for my purposes and the variety of available cuts (thin, thick, small and large julienne) has proven more than adequate. PLEASE NOTE a bias that I have... I do NOT use the hand guard but ALWAYS wear a Kevlar, cut-resistant glove and am very careful. The guard worked as well as such things generally do, but I just prefer the protective glove.
