Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Swissmar Borner V-1001 V-Slicer Plus Mandoline 6 Piece SetCustomer Review: Love it! But be aware there is an upgraded model. Summary: 5 Stars
Just want to reiterate what everyone else said. I love it and plan to buy a few more for friends and relatives. One thing I would like to point out though, this is the classic model. There apparently is a new model called the "pro" which has a few extra features. I didn't realize this at the time, and might have swayed my decision to buy the upgraded model instead. It does a few different sized slices and the cubing is less cumbersome.
But besides for my want of always the "latest and coolest" model of anything, I love this and use it all the time. And I'm one of those geeks that really enjoys using it, seeing the consistent slices and the speed at which I can prepare veggies in it.
Get it, you won't be sorry.
Customer Review: My Most Used "Appliance" Summary: 5 Stars
I am surprised at how much I use my V-slicer!! It's fablous. I use it nearly daily to slice onions very thinly for salad. I use it for eggplant for veggie lasagna and eggplant parmesan. I use it for peppers. I use it for potatoes. I think that buying the v-slicer has increased the amount of veggies I eat--because it makes preparing them so easy. Basically, just pop your veggie on the finger guard...and then move it back and forth across the blades. The blades are multi-purpose...i.e. one side gives a thin cut, the other a thick cut. Clean up is simple... we rinse it...and then scrub it using a toothbrush with some dish soap on it. I haven't cut myself yet (even though I'm a klutz)..and I've been using it for almost 5 months.
Customer Review: You HAVE to buy this! Summary: 5 Stars
It works GREAT. Plain and simple, this thing will cut through any veggie like butter. The hand guard is very comfortable to grip and keeps your hand very safely away from that sharp cutting blade. I've used it every day since I bought it and even my teenage son is getting into using it. We've made sliced cucumbers, french fries, potato sticks, and potato chips. All were cut REALLY fast and clean up was a snap. Just rinse in water, put it back in the caddy, stand it on the counter and let it drip dry. As long as you use the hand guard, you won't cut yourself. Don't be scared by reviewers who cut their fingers. They clearly didn't use the hand guard. I can see this quickly becoming the most-used tool in our kitchen.
Customer Review: good product or good riddance????? Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, some people give this thing 5 stars and some give it one star. So what is the scoop??? Here it is. I think this thing is awesome. I am buying a second one just in case something happens to the first one. HOWEVER my wife cannot stand it. She thinks using it is comparable to rocket science (yes, she has sliced herself up with it). I don't get it, however the fact remains that some people have what it takes to slice vegetables with this thing and some dont!!! Here is how it works. Step one: Impale vegetables on spikes. Step two: Move hand back and forth. Step three: Toss in sink.
Additional info added: I have taught her how to properly use this and she loves it as well.
Customer Review: OUCH!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I HAD READ ALL OF THE RAVE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS PRODUCT AND WAS ECSTATIC WHEN IT ARRIVED IN THE MAIL. WHILE REMOVING THE PRODUCT FROM IT'S CASE MY LEFT HAND SLID THROUGH THE SLICER TAKING OFF 3 KNUCKLES AND SEVERING THE TENDONS IN MY RING FINGER. AFTER A TRIP TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM, AND SEVERAL VISITS TO AN ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON, I BELIEVE MY MALLET FINGER WILL RECOVER. I DID NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY IT ON VEGETABLES BECAUSE MY HUSBAND THREW IT AWAY (AGAINST MY WILL), BUT I CAN SAY THET THE BLADES ARE VERY SHARP! PLEASE BE CAREFUL REMOVING THE COVER. THE MAKER OF THIS PRODUCT REALLY NEEDS TO MAKE THE COVER WHERE IT WILL SLIDE ON THE OTHER END TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO SOMEONE ELSE. GOOD LUCK!
