I bought this based on the recommendations of all of the reviews I read here on Amazon and I'm glad to say I'm glad I did.
The blades are indeed VERY sharp. They slice right through tomatos (even over ripe mushy ones!), onions, potato's, carrots, anything!
The only problem we had was when we tried to julienne some potatos. The potatos tried to stick the first few tries, but realized that the faster you push/slide it across the blades, the easier and better it worked.
As for staining (from tomatos), I have yet to see that...
By no means is this a replacement for a good parring or chefs knife.
This is truly the better of the mandolines/slicers, just for the fact that it's cheaper AND actually works. A must have for kitchens!

I have been looking for a slicer for quite a while. First I had an electric blender/slicing device that would constantly be stuck with pieces of vegetables. Such a pain that I threw it in the trash. My husband gave me KitchenAid for my birthday and I looked into an attachment that could slice veggies. But after reading bad reviews, I realized that this was going to be a pain as well. So I stumbled upon the V-Slicer and read so many good things about it, that I thought this one must be good. Now that I have it, I must say I wasn't dissapointed. It slices all my vegetables with so much ease. And it is easy to clean, just rinse under the running tap and it's done. Doesn't take up much space since all the accessories fit into each other.
Very happy with my purchase!

I really only bought this product for two kitchen tasks. First is French onion soup. Finely slicing 5 onoins can be a bit taxing. This goes through them in no time and each is the perfect thickness. The second task is for making thin potato chips for our dog (she's allergic to most pet food products). We were having to hand slice them every week and could never get an even thickness that worked well with our microwaved chip recipe. This slicer does the job in about 30-45 seconds. We had owned a slicer before (Oxo) but it simply would not make clean cuts. The "V" slcing mechanism is much more efficient than the single angled blade. Much less effort with each swipe. This product is easily a third the price of the competition and the best performing of the lot.Customer Review: Safe and Easy

I have had this v-slicer for several weeks now and I couldn't be happier with it. I read many reviews of similar products before settling on this one because of its safety and price. The product is made of sturdy plastic and comes with detailed instructions for use. I always use it with the safety holder (strongly recommended) and have had no injuries or even near-misses (I am a person whose family leaves the room so they don't have to watch when I wield a knife). The slicer slices a variety of foods consistently, quickly, and easily. All in all, I am extremely satisfied. My only negative comment is that the white plastic does seem to stain easily (my first cutting experiment was with baby carrots and the slicer retains a slight orange tint).Customer Review: CHEFS DELIGHT

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BORNER SWISSMAR SLICER EVEN THOUGH I AM OLD SCHOOL,EVERYTHING DONE BY HAND AND FROM SCRATCH. TO MY DELIGHT I FOUND THIS SIMPLE,YET VERY EFFICIANT AND VERSITILE TOOL TO BE TIME SAVING AS WELL AS ENABLEING ME TO PRODUCE CULINARILLY CORRECT RECIPES. THIS TOOL MAKES PREPERATION AND PRESENTATION OF GREAT DISHES EASY AND EFFECIENT,AS WELL AS EASE IN CLEANING AND STOREING.
