Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Borner Food Safety Holder

Customer Review: Best Safety Holder I've Tried
Summary: 4 Stars

I have several single-use mandolines (bought at Thrift Stores). This safety holder works with all of them, and is much more comfortable in the hand than others I've tried. It also holds food fairly securely.

Customer Review: Selling separately is a great idea.
Summary: 4 Stars

Looks like the item has been improved since my previous one, which finally broke recently. Was glad I was able to replace just the piece that broke since the rest of the slicer is still in good condition.

Customer Review: No need- just be careful
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't find the need for this - just be careful with the shredder. On the other hand, I may be missing something. Instructions for how and when to apply this safety gadget are in drawings on the side of the wrapping. An instruction page (no need for a book, just a few clues on how to use this thing) is in order but sorely lacking. Shop elsewhere for another meaningful gadget, or just live dangerously. The manufacturers of these products seem to believe we will do just fine with pictures and possibly a prayer. Disclaimer: I am not a chef and basically cut open bags of lettuce and shred some carrots, boil some pasta and pour on some Classico, and call it Italian night. I bought this particular product because I believed in the necessity of it when combining with the veggie shredder, based on other reviews. But honestly, this overrated piece of plastic is merely an expensive shelf decoration. I used it once and won't use it again unless someone more brilliant than me shows me a good reason to do so.

Customer Review: unwieldy
Summary: 2 Stars

I find this holder very difficult to use. It does not hold food securely nor is it comfortable to grip if you have small hands. The design--at least when used with the v-slicer--does not allow you to slice most items all the way through.

I would look for a different safety holder or try a steel mesh glove instead.
