Customer Review: Clearing Up the Mysteries of These Pitchers

These pitchers are great. I bought one of them and two others (Luminarc Quadro 2-Liter Glass Pitcher with Lid and the Luminarc Quadro 1-1/2-Quart (57-1/4-Ounce) Pitcher), to compare. Before getting to the comparison, I want to address some ostensible problems with the Bormioli that other reviewers have raised:
1. "The lid is loose, or if I do get it partly sealed, it leaks."
The lid seals tightly and doesn't leak. The insert that comes in the pitcher shows how to do it, but it's in tiny type and requires a magnifying glass. Here's how:
a. Hold the outer ring with one hand and, with the other hand, turn the handle all the way *counterclockwise.* (Even halfway will do it, but these instructions are designed to be foolproof.)
b. Insert lid in pitcher.
c. Hold the outer ring with one hand and, with the other hand, turn the handle all the way *clockwise* (about 3/4 of a turn; don't try to force it any farther or you'll break it).
The lid is now sealed tight, and nothing will leak from the spout.
The inner ring is eccentric, like a cam--not perfectly round--so that when you turn it clockwise, the bulge presses against the outer ring and seals it.
2. "Even with the lid off, the pitcher spills when I pour from it."
Also very simple: don't fill it all the way to the top. If you fill it only to the shoulder, or top of the handle, and tip it fully when pouring (rather than just tilting it slightly), you'll never spill a drop.
3. "The handle is too close to the body."
Admittedly, it's a little closer than one would like (probably for strength), and I was concerned about that when I ordered it, but it turns out not to be a major inconvenience. It just means that if you have big hands, you hold the handle with your fingers instead of your palm.
Now, the comparison:
The 1-1/2-Quart pitcher we can dispose of immediately--first, because it doesn't hold as much as the other two, and second, because it doesn't have a lid.
The Bormioli pitcher is made of thick glass and is short and squat, so it's very stable but won't fit in a refrigerator door, if that's what you need. The Luminarc will, if the space above the shelf is high enough.
The Luminarc has handgrips molded into the glass, which makes it a more awkward pour and doesn't provide the grip that the handle on the Bormioli offers. What concerned me was that if I poured from a full pitcher with wet or oily hands, the Luminarc could slip out of my grasp.
Other reviews have mentioned that the Luminarc was made of thin glass that broke in transit or shortly after arrival. I can't confirm the glass thickness--although I had one here, I didn't even remove the bubble wrap after determining that the handgrips made it inconvenient.
I found the Bormioli easily the best for my purposes and ordered three more.
