Customer Review: Great little coffee press
Summary: 5 Stars

This press is perfect for one person. I love the unbreakable aspect, and the price is hard to beat.

Customer Review: Buy this quick.

Just got this press after the glass in my old one started to crack....who knows why...

Unbreakable sounds really good after that, replacement glass is NOT cheap.

I looked at a gazillon presses on line and in stores. Do not be fooled by the "three cup" designation....it makes a regular coffee cup full with room for a couple of ice cubes.

This press is easy to use but has a few "quirks". The "pressing" part at the bottom has a rubber or silicone rim. My old press was screen all of the way to the edge and was a bit wider than the cup...so, you have to be careful when you put it into the cup, make sure that it is upright and centered or you may get a few grounds. Then, when you press it, the bottom of the cup narrows I guess to increase the pressure. The fun part of this is that the rubber edge compresses and rubs against the sides and the press makes a kind of groaning noise. If you press it down all of the way it may stick a bit when you try to pull it back up. So don't try to make a stealth cup of coffee with this if someone is sleeping...they may think you either have ghosts in the house or that you farted....

The part I like the best about this press is the handle. BUY THIS NOW!!!!! They are making a newer version of this same press with an owie looking handle. This handle is big and soft and slip free, and I am not sure how many more they have to sell...

First, the eternal admonmition: read the damned manual
Then we, Americans are the onlypeople on earth to measure a cup as 8 ounces. Even our US china makers make drinking cups in the 3 to 4 ouncesrange. in reality a 3 cup(read 3 tasses) will produce one 11-12 ounce coffee mug.
Re the non metalic plunging 'filter: plunge slowly with a pristine clean mesh.If resistance becomes strong, back up an inch and plunge anew. in extremecases(usuallythe resultof the "fines', the powder produced by poor grinders) remove the plunger, rinse, restart the plunging(slowly!)I soak my plunger in hotwater immediately fter making my coffee, never had a problem but again,I'm not ham-fisted and Idon't mind taking a full 30seconds to plunge the water/coffee mix.
Finally: never forget to vigorously stir the mixture, with a PLASTIC utensil until a 'crema' tops the brew( you read the littlemanual, yes?) you'll getthe richest coffee this side of an espresso but not to the last drop:it is coffee mud(the excess of the 'fines' that were floating in your coffee and enriched its taste. Cn't stand the little mud get a Twchnivorm drip maker(the one and only that gets the water to the minimum 185 degrees F and use it witha gold mesh filter, not paper expectto pay about $200 for the basic Technivorm(it is worth the price! and it is made in theNetherlands, not China)

Customer Review: Backcountry coffee snobs unite!
Summary: 4 Stars

well there is constant discussion over how us backpackers make our java at camp. Some use disposable bags, some use instant, some use coffee concentrate (java juice, etc.)
I have been using this product for well over 3 years on occasion and found it to be a worthwhile luxury on those cold desert mornings at camp. This is definatley a great alternative to heavier (titanium) and far more expensive (titanium) presses you see sold at the outdoor stores. Most outdoor retailers carry a lexan version of the 3 cup press but it is of course, twice the price as the BonJour model. Here's what I did: remove the handle. Remove the base. Make a reflectix cozy for the body. Presto, a 4.5 ounce coffee press that makes a great cup for under $13
I gave this 4 stars because the screen on the lid has a gap that allows grounds to enter your cup/mug and the whole idea seems to be good in theory, but in practice it simply doesnt work. Solution: make grounds larger. (medium grind works well here, as you may already imagine)
Enjoy!

Customer Review: Nice, small press
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this press to take camping, not for everyday use. This press is relatively unbreakable, if you handle it carefully. Some issues I have noted:

I get about 8 oz of coffee from this press. It is not a large press.

If there is any resistance when pressing, lift the knob slightly and turn. This releases the grounds that were caught in the filter. The press should then be able to continue without resistance.

The filter on the lid is essential to removing all the grounds from the coffee.

The rubber bottom easily comes off of the beaker. If you are not careful, it would be easy to lose.

The press is easy to clean.

Overall, this press does exactly what it is supposed to do and works well for camping.
