Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of BonJour Hugo 3-Cup Unbreakable French Press, BlackCustomer Review: Great, easy to use French Press Summary: 5 Stars
I use this press almost every day at work. It certainly is not three cup by American standards, but this three cup is perfect for my thermo mug I put my coffee in after it has steeped. I had read some reviews that there were some issues, but I haven't seen any of them. The measuring cup that comes with it is perfect for the right strength I like, I heat the water for about 2 mins 15 seconds, let it steep for 4 or 5 minutes, and then put it back in the cup. No grounds and lots of flavor. At first, I didn't think I liked it but that was because it was very different from what I'm used to. I like it a lot now; much more flavor. One caveat for those that like boiling hot coffee, you'll need to put it back in the microwave (in your original cup of course). I don't have to because I can't drink it really hot. It is just right for me. I'm very glad I got this. It's better than the instant I was drinking and certainly better than the vending machine. Also, much less than the premium convenience coffee.
Customer Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted a small French Press style coffee maker as I would be the only person using it. I wanted something that wasnt too heavy and wouldnt break. Then I wanted it cheap but good quality. I looked at the Bodums but this one seemed to fit my needs the best. So I bought it!
It has worked fine for me. I was surprised at how small it was but that hasnt been a problem. It makes enough for about a full cup of coffee. The coffee is good. I havent had a problem with grounds getting into my cup. The strainer on the filter and the little strainer that slides over the spout do a good job. The coffee tastes good.
Its small enough to be put out of the way when not being used. I am happy with it and dont regret my purchase. Recommended if your looking for a small French Press.
Customer Review: Easy, durable, high in quality Summary: 5 Stars
This is only my second french press, and it has been awhile since I've used one, but I made a near-perfect cup of coffee on my first try with this Bonjour model. It's so easy to use! The narrow diameter of the cylinder, combined with the tight seal around the plunger, makes it easy to keep the plunger level as you press down. And because the cylinder is plastic instead of glass, it's easy to pour the coffee without those annoying dribbles down the side. The filter is really good at trapping the ground coffee and sediments, and there's an additional screen at the spout, for good measure. My only complaint is that it can be hard to hand-wash because it's so narrow. (It's important to wash the oils and sediments out to keep the coffee tasting fresh.) This is a great product and a great value!
Customer Review: Not quite as smooth as glass, but still great Summary: 5 Stars
Since this is an unbreakable press pot, it involves a rubber gasket that encircles the filter. This can increase the friction (and force required) to depress the lever while straining your coffee or tea. However, it is easy to clean, and has a built in strainer and splash guard, which more than make up for this inconvenience. I have not had any problems with the gasket coming off (which is really the only drawback I've found to the plastic kind). It should also be known that the base can be removed but the handle cannot.
Lastly, to prevent any confusion, this "3 Cup" French press holds three 4-oz servings, not 36-oz. It is ideal for individual use, or for two people (though I suppose it could be rinsed between uses for more than two people).
Customer Review: Bravo! Summary: 5 Stars
After using a French press with a glass jar at home, I came across this product which I obtained from Handy House (Beaver Creek Shop). As I use this on my sailboat, the fact that is an unbreakable product is key. The design is better than my home one as it has a filter on the pouring side, which keeps any grinds in the press (out of my cup).
The service from the Beaver Creek Shop / Handy House was excellent. No whining about shipping to Canada and at an excellent price. Even a personal follow-up on the mailing and arrival of the package.
Well Done!
