Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of BonJour Creme Brulee Chef's Culinary Torch with Fuel Gauge, Brushed Aluminum

Customer Review: Don't Consider Anything Else But This
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking at a little cheaper one at first then realized many people had problems and recommended more expensive one. So, I decided to purchase this one and I am so glad that I did. This is durable, very easy to use and flame comes out so strong at the highest position which makes your work a lot faster and easier.

Like someone wrote here, mine came with full fuel. I couldn't see any air inside the window so tried to fill up and didn't go in. So I turned it on and noticed it had full fuel already. So, if you purchase this item, you should try using it before filling it up.

I made 2 creme brulee in 5" diameter dishes and used about 1/3 of the fuel. It hold enough to make 6 or more so you don't have to keep filling up. There is a small knob on the side at the top of this torch which I didn't know until I was done using it (read instructions!!!). It is to hold the frame so you don't have to keep holding the turn on button.

Customer Review: I have to keep guests away from it
Summary: 5 Stars

Whenever someone comes into my kitchen they inevitably pick up this torch and fire it up. That look in their eyes, is almost like when cavemen first discovered they have tamed fire on a stick torch. (see what I did there?)

I use the torch for sous vide and creme brulee. It works well for home use, as the capacity of the tank isn't big enough for full-on restaurants. Because of that, I like this as it is easy to handle and twist and turn as it doesn't have a huge canister underneath it.

Mine didn't come with any fuel in it, so I had to go to the convenience store to buy some butane fuel for cigarette lighters. Interestingly most big-box retailers do not carry such fuel (state laws?)

Customer Review: Cool Torch
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this torch it has a brushed aluminum body, weighs, and feels pretty solid. I like how it has a nice consistant flame that keeps going until you release the button. You can also adjust the flame so that you have a large flame or a small flame for what ever you are trying to achieve. The only drawback would be that it uses up a lot of butane fluid which can be costly (well atleast where I live, the only place i can buy butane lighter fluid is in cigar shops) but then again this is my first torch and do not really know if all the others use up alot fluid as well. However, I am still happy.

Customer Review: Good value for the price!
Summary: 5 Stars

This torch works really well! It's easy to fill with butane and it is incredibly easy to use. I have to disagree with some of the other reviewers that commented about the safety lock being difficult to use...I think the safety lock is intuitive and does not get in the way of using this torch. The feature that allows this torch to stay on until turned off with the switch is really convenient for things like creme brulee where you need to have the torch on for an extended period. I was able to torch 13 creme brulees before the fuel needed refilling. I'd say it's pretty efficient!

Customer Review: Perfect for light-medium kitchen duty
Summary: 5 Stars

BonJour has a winner for simple kitchen applications such as 'torching' a creme brulee. It is user friendly, sits securely in the removable stand and the fuel indicator window makes the entire process of filling the tank with butane and/or monitoring the level of useage easy and worry-free. I think it would have been fun if Bonjour had added a couple 'torch' suggestions, but that's not critical. I like this torch a lot! It does not come standard with fuel and is empty when shipped but butane can be found just about at any hardware or 'Target' like store.
