I ordered this not sure if it would work for CASEIN whey protein, which is a lot harder to dissolve into water than normal whey protein...previously I had been using a blender to do so, and it was kind of a pain to wash and dry every time so I was making a big batch and pouring into single serving small glass bottles. Plus the protein tastes a little funny if it's been sitting around for a few days in the fridge.
Having this BlenderBottle has eliminated the need for that entirely. Yes, it works wonderfully on casein protein! Three tips:
1. Keep a finger on the white plastic flap at the top while shaking the bottle since it will quickly open and make a mess otherwise.
2. Pour the desired amount of liquid into the bottle first, THEN add the powder...if you do it in the reverse order, much more likely to have some clumps sticking to the bottom around the edges.
3. Was immediately after use for maximum ease of cleaning...I recommend using a bottle brush for best results.
Oh, and I'm very glad that it is made of BPA-free plastic, nice!

I started out using it for what it seems obviously intended for - shakes and smoothies, because it's so easy to mix things in it, but I was very pleasantly surprised by a couple of aspects.
Number 1 - it really IS really easy to clean. The cup cleans out as easy as anything but you might expect the springy little ball to get stuff stuck in it. Not at all. I use it for whey shakes and when I clean it I just fill it with hot water and a little dish soap, shake it up like you do the shake and rinse it out.
Number 2 - The cap is SOLID. So you're a little freaked out shaking this thing around with a cloudy, gunky, frighteningly sticky fruit concoction inside, afraid it's going to go spraying all over your kitchen right? WRONG! The lid is so tight you actually have to put some heft into it to snap it open with one hand. I can't actually drink from it in class very easily because it snaps such so loudly.
The bottle is so conveniently sized and shaped that eventually I just started drinking gatorade, water, juice, etc out of it too. I love this thing!

I've used this to make my protein drinks and for other fruity gatorade type drinks. It's really good at blending and it's much easier than using a spoon. If you've ever made chocolate milk (e.g., Quik), you know the clumps that occur (especially if you add the milk after you add the powder). The ball really works. The seal is excellent (though you need to verify the seal by the click; one time, I closed it incompletely and when I shook, fluid started gushing). I even use it for when I make a fiber drink with a Metamucil-like fiber. This can hold a substantial amount of fluid (plenty big for my taste).
It also has measurements on the side so you know exactly how much fluid is in the container.
The only negative is that you should really clean this well as soon as possible after use, especially if you make those gatorade type drinks. There was a vitamin water mix powder that after drinking, would give the plastic a strange smell. And if I didn't wash the bottle right away after drinking it, the plastic would really stink.

I originally purchased this bottle for mixing powder Slim Fast (which by the way mixes it in seconds!!)...but then I started using at a water bottle for the gym... This is by far the BEST water bottle ever. It has a tight snapping lid that won't leak in your gym bag, it's BPA Free (safe), and has a wide open mouth for easy "one hand" drinking at many speeds on the treadmill or while moving on the elliptical. Another great feature is that you can just flip over the white lid to loosely cover the opening while working out when you don't want germs getting into it (or the breath of the person breathing hard on the next machine), but can easly flip it back and drink with one hand without having to twist a cap on and off (with both hands). I just ordered my seconde Blender Bottle because I lost the first one while traveling and CAN NOT WORK OUT WITHOUT IT... Great design, great product.. I received this item yesterday. I am please to say that this item works just as stated in other reviews.
After much deliberation, got the purple color, I like the color of it. The label on the bottle looks to be on there pretty nicely, they used a good print method from what I can tell.
The shape and quality of the plastics surprised me. The top of it is a good sturdy plastic and the closing mechanism is made tight. It is strong plastic on plastic friction connection. The hinge has a nice solid feel to it as well. You would have to mess up pretty bad to be able to break this accidentally.
The stainless steel ball is a coiled cylindrical wire. You can compress it from the top and bottom poles and it will fold like an accordion. I closely compared the wire ball to a wisk and it is composed of heavier gauge wire than the wisk.
This thing is so fun to use its like a toy for adults.
