Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Farberware FCP240 2-4-Cup Percolator, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: The Perfect Compact Summary: 5 Stars
I've jumped around over the years with different types of coffeemakers. I purchased this little Farberware 3 years ago when I tired of my Bunn with thermal carafe not keeping the coffee hot very long. I'd had one of the electronic Farberware percolators, the ones that detach from the base and have a timer--bad luck with that one.
I can't take this little jewel to the table like a thermal carafe, but the coffee comes very quickly, and two rounded scoops works every time. Sometimes I use the almost-free little paper filters, but usually I don't. I started with perked coffee 30+ years ago and I still love it. This little pot has made at least one pot daily for those three years without incident. I've found that using a little dishwashing powder cleans the inside with a perk cycle better than any of the other cleaners I've tried. The pot looks virtually new. I do miss the little glass knob at the top that one can watch the perking happen, but it's so fast with this pot there isn't much watching! I also take this on the road when I travel, as it works much faster and better than those nasty little hotel room pots. I live alone and usually one of these pots will make all I need for the day. Plus, for shorter trips it's a lot, lot cheaper than buying coffee on the road!
Customer Review: My coffee companion Summary: 5 Stars
About 40 years ago, I purchased my first Farberware 6-cup Percolator (when it cost $19.95). It was a treasure. Over 30 years ago I (foolishly) loaned my percolator to a friend who never returned it. About 7 years ago I found another of the same size in a second-hand store which I grabbed before anyone else could.
This morning I went to make another cup of coffee with my 6-cup Farberware Percolator and the base came loose and dropped off.
A couple of years ago the spring that held the basket on the stem bent. When I called the company they said they couldn't send me the spring alone but I would have to purchase both the spring and stem. The price was (to me) exorbitant ... $25 plus S&H which I could not afford. I asked a co-worker and he adjusted the spring to the stem and it worked perfectly.
I am now looking for my third 6-cup Farberware Percolator in over 40 years and and am even more convinced that this is the one for me thanks to your comments and to my experiences as well.
Thank you all for your input and God bless you.
Customer Review: THE BEST little coffee maker you'll ever buy Summary: 5 Stars
I love the flavor of rich, full-bodied coffee. So when my son left for college last month, I purchased a small 4-cup drip maker. But somehow the paper filter affected the taste of the coffee, so I bought a metal screen filter and that was better. But then a friend had one of these 4-cup percolators and the coffee was best I'd ever had!
This little baby is amazing! It seriously percolates 4 cups of incredible coffee in only 4 minutes! Within seconds after turning it on, it's steaming like crazy, filling my kitchen with that smell from heaven. Try it with some Douwe Egberts (imported from Holland -- hard to find outside of the pods -- the same stuff they serve at the Paris Hotel in Vegas) and it's nothing short of total perfection. You'll LOVE IT!!!
My only gripe (albeit a small one) was that the first one arrived DOA, but Amazon had the replacement to me in two days which worked perfectly. I've had it a month now and wonder how I ever choked down the tepid papery drip stuff before (shudder).
Customer Review: Makes great coffee. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this coffee maker about 8 months ago and have used it almost every day since. It makes consistently excellent coffee, hotter and MUCH fresher tasting than any automatic drip I've ever had. It is no harder than an automatic drip maker to clean and you don't have to deal with soggy filters. In fact, usually I make coffee in the morning and wash the percolator at night and actually ENJOY cleaning the percolator because it's all stainless steel and easily gets cleaner than the plastic parts of an auto-drip. Part of it is because you can actually hand wash every surface the water and coffee will touch, unlike the plastic reservoirs you dump water into on an auto-drip. I actually get cravings for coffee at night while I'm cleaning it and look forward to the morning when I can brew another pot. When I periodically clean it with Dip It cleaner for percolators, it's like having a brand new percolator. To sum up: FRESH, delicious coffee!
Customer Review: The Best Little Perc in Town Summary: 5 Stars
For the coffee traditionalist AND for those who long for the taste and smell of home!
This little perc has been a presence in our family for thirty or forty years. After I left home several decades ago, I evolved into a coffee press/Peet's fanatic myself, but when I brought my parents to live with me, the little Farberware Perc came with them, and I quickly reverted back to that fresh perked taste and smell. The coffee makes up fast and goes fast, so you never have that old perked coffee smell in your house or that syrupy brown gunk to deal with, and these chubby little Farberware droids last forever. Fortunately my folks decided they liked Maxwell House Colombian better than the Master Blend, and we brew several pots of this delicious liquid a day.
Warning: do not compare this coffee experience to your Peet's or Zabar's cafe presse - instead think of diners and grandma's house!
