Used it this weekend for first time and was very pleased at the toasting results.
Customer Review: One of the easiest appliances I have installed. Summary: 4 Stars
My wife had visited a friend and really like the Black & Decker Spacesaver Toaster Oven that she had in her home. We had been looking for something to save some counter space in our kitchen. She called me and I looked the product up on line. There were several bad reviews on just about every aspect of the product. Especially, how hard it was to install.
She got home from her visit and I told her that we might want to look at another model because the reviews were really bad. She was looking at me kind of funny and embarrased, because she had already ordered it and it was being shipped to the house. I said OK. Let's see what we get.
The oven arrived and my son and I tore into it. It didn't seem to be too difficult. It turned out to be one of the easiest installs that I have done. A lot easier than putting in a microwave.
I didn't use the template for marking the holes for the mounting bracket. I simply took the screws(and there were several different lengths in the package depending on your particular cabinet)and screwed them into the mounting bracket and put a drop of white glue on the ends. I held the bracket up in the position that I wanted and simply pressed the screws against the bottom of the cabinet. It left four nice white marks for me to drill. It worked out perfect. We attached the toaster to the bracket securely(it seemed to be easier to do this first and make sure that the oven and the bracket base was secure and tight) and attached it to the cabinet. It was level, sturdy and has been working great! Saved a ton of counter space. It's not as big as our old counter model, but it gets the job done nicely. The only thing that I wish it came with is a baking pan/sheet to trade out with the rack for backing.
Besides the lack of a baking pan/sheet, it looks great, works great and easy to install. I would recommend this to anyone looking to save some room in the kitchen.
Customer Review: addressing both product and installation Summary: 4 Stars
First off this product is exactly what I wanted in that it is a fully functional under cabinet mount toaster. Many reviewers are knocking it because it doesn't come with a tray but it doesn't say it comes with a tray so I knew that going into it. The installation instructions are good not great but easy to follow for any normal person out there. The way go about having you figure the spacer requirement when you have a trim overhang is wrong though. They don't take into account in the instructions that the heat shield depth is 3/4 inch also. Once you get past that your good. I have a standard 1 inch cabinet trim over hang on my cabinets. To go along with a lot of other reviewers if you have any trim over 1/2 inch then the screws supplied simply are not long enough. I called the 800 number in the manual and the recording referred me to a website where I was able to order the 3 inch screws. It cost me an additional $15 and arrived in a very timely manner. The packet came with all of the screws including the longer ones as well as all of the spacers which is good because they don't give you enough 1/2 inch spacers in the original packet. You have all of the spacers you need you just have to put together all of the different sizes.
In short if you have any sort of trim overhang you WILL need to order the longer screws. Believe I tried to get them locally to no avail. Just easier to realize it now that you will have to do this.
It DOESN'T come with a tray so if you buy expecting one don't give it a bad review because of that.
Other than that once the screws came in the installation was a snap. The template was right on and easy to use.
It is a great product and only gave it four stars because they should just include the longer screw pack to start with. Raise the price to cover that if they want but it would save customers the little bit of hassle.
Customer Review: Great....But Summary: 4 Stars
Nice toaster oven. It toasts very quickly and its easy to burn toast. I too hate the "turn past ten" and set to the time you want to toast, otherwise it won't toast at all. It matches quite well our all-stainless appliances. The biggest negative is the installation under the counter. Most, if not all kitchen cabinets have a small 1/2 to 5/8 inch recess and its very difficult to place the paper template property. The instruction are not very clear and worse yet is the set of spacers you are given. The spaces have to add up to over 1 inch long (1/2 inch for the recess plus another 5/8 inch for the metal seperater. And getting the spacers and the screws all lined up requires magic and lots and lots of patience. This aspect of installing under a kitchen cabinet should be completely redesigned. Its really a nightmare. However, if you are going to leave it on your counter and not mount it, its a fine appliance.
Customer Review: Replacement toaster oven Summary: 4 Stars
This was to replace a Black and Decker toaster oven we had for over 12 years. We didn't have much choice, exceept for color, since Black and Decker is the only one who makes a model to be installed under the kitchen cabinets. We were very pleased with our old one. The new model has some features that are very useful. I like the timer that lets you set how long you want something to cook and shuts off when the time is up. I am still getting used to the toast setting. You have to put the timer past 10 minutes then set it back. There are no clear minute markings except for every 5 minutes, so it is difficult to get just the right time for the toast. The toast seems to get done very quickly. I guess with time I will find the spot that I like for the way I like my toast done.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the product.
