Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker TRO390W Toast-R-Oven Classic Countertop Oven/BroilerCustomer Review: No help from Consumer Service Summary: 1 Stars
After having the product for about a year, the toaster stopped working. We can still use the bake and timer. I reported the problem to their Consumer Service and got the following reply:
"Your unit is no longer under warranty according to the date code. A proof of purchase is required for a warranty exchange. Please refer to your use and care manual for warranty terms and conditions"
To which I replied:
"Not a good response. Not helpful. Regardless of warranty or cost you could at least offer some assistance with your product. This does not leave a good impression of your company or the quality of your products. I would definitely not choose another of your appliances based on this experience."
I wanted to share this with others considering this product and company. I have often found that companies are eager to help customers who have found faults in their products (even if you have to pay). This is a clear exception and I would not want to buy from this company again. Should not have to throw out a year old appliance.
Customer Review: don't buy it Summary: 1 Stars
been buying B and D toasters since 1986 so i feel like i know what i'm talking about. the last 2 i've bought have only about a year. the one i used to buy would give me about 2 1/2 years of service -- which i think is reasonable.
this toaster -- bought for its convection feature, lasted me about 11 mos and the convection fan went out 2 mos before the entire oven stopped working.
another piece of junk.
so this appliance is going to the landfill. seriously -- i would prefer to pay twice as much for something less disposable and i feel like it is time for these appliance companies to be more responsible and build something that lasts longer -- i've had 8 toasters since 1986 and that is stupid consumerism.
my message to these producers is build something that lasts.
and my message to my fellow consumers is don't buy this junk.
Customer Review: DO NOT Buy This Toaster - Fire Hazard Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this toaster oven because it was inexpensive, small, had the features I wanted, and matched our kitchen decor nicely. Black and Decker is usually a reliable brand. BIG mistake - I should know by now that you should research all products, no matter how cheap, before buying.
We have had this toaster oven less than a year. It functioned fairly well for several months, although it did get too hot on the outside and was not particularly sturdy. Then the toaster timer quit working properly - it would continue past the zero and the oven would not turn off unless unplugged. We have been continuing to use it since then (plugging and unplugging it, burning a few items) until we could look into fixing it. But after reading these reviews, I realize how dangerous this could be and will be buying a different toaster.
Customer Review: Don't Buy This Toaster Oven! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this toaster oven recently at Macy's, and had to return it. My bread never got toasted unless it went through two whole cycles. There is no real broiler pan, just the baking pan and the wire rack used for the toast. It looks nice on the counter, and is a good size for small counter-tops, but it does not work well at all. The broiler also took forever to heat something up. It is on sale everywhere; you get what you pay for! It is the worst toaster oven I have ever had.
I exchanged it for a DeLonghi, which was a bit more expensive, but works great!!!! What a difference! The DeLonghi does come with a real broiler pan, and is made much better with more watts as well. It is also digital, which some people might prefer.
Customer Review: EXTREMELY DANGEROUS OVEN Summary: 1 Stars
Do NOT buy this toaster oven. We bought ours approx a month ago. Yesterday it caught on FIRE. Literally. Apparently the "toast timer" bell rang, but the oven stayed on. Thank God for our smoke alarm in the kitchen, because I had stepped outside for literally a couple of minutes to check on my Husband, and then heard the smoke alarm. I unplugged the oven, and hucked it out into our driveway. Our cabinets are slightly burned, and I'm thankful that's all.
I'm now noticing from other reviews that this is not a UL listed product. I am horrified that dangerous products like these are being made under once valued names like Black & Decker.
Today we are going to try to find a nice regular toaster made in the US.
