I purchased this coffee maker for work about two years ago. I have used it since for coffee about 5-6 times a week. I really appreciate the design notes: most coffee makers I have encountered in work environments have several places that tend to just gather coffee residue, which is just gross after a while. The B&D design uses a big reservoir which you can pop out to rinse out or fill for coffee; a thermal carafe which keeps the coffee in the drinkably warm temperature range for about 5 hours (make sure to take the carafe out from under the filter and to tighten up the top!); and the filter holder can also be rotated out and then removed for cleaning.
I wish it was a bit cheaper, but it's super solid, and the coffee from the carafe stays warm without burning!
Just for some perspective, I've purchased many things on amazon, but I believe this is my first review!

I have been totally pleased with this coffeemaker since I purchased it 8 months ago. It is the best design ever. Easy to clean with the removable water reservoir, you can put it in the dishwasher. One of the best things about it is the brewing time is super fast!. When I want coffee in the morning I don't want to wait long at all and it is ready before you know it.
This unit is perfect for my style of coffee drinking, I only drink coffee first thing in the morning therefore it is hot and just right for drinking. I never liked having coffee sitting on the heating element and burning making the taste of the coffee awful and the smell in my house.
If this unit ever wears out I hope this model is still available for purchase because I love it and would definitely buy it again. I highly recommend this unit.

The two big benefits of this product are the nice appearance and the safety/energy savings. The idea of an electric heating element (keeping the coffee warm) on my plastic counter top is not the best. So the whole "thermal carafe" idea appeals to me. I don't have to worry...is the heating element set for one hour or five hours? It is also the best looking coffee maker I have ever owned. On the downside, you can't see how much coffee is left in the carafe so you had better plan your quantity requirements carefully. And as others have pointed out, the carafe lid takes some getting used to. I recommend that after you brew the coffee you remove the basket OR the carafe so the carafe will remained sealed. With both in the brewing position you will lose the insulation properties of the carafe.Customer Review: very good coffee

Makes the coffee fast
It tastes good and is hot
The thermal cup keeps it hot for a long time, long enough for you to drink two cups and still have a third that is as warm as the first
No heating surface which means no burnt coffee taste, and it keeps it warmer than the heating surface anyways
The water tank goes off and you can fill it easily, goes back on with no effort
Timer very useful for the morning cup of coffee before going to school, you wake up and the coffee is already brewed, and if you're like me, you'll love waking up to the smell of coffee
Very easy to clean
Best coffee maker I've had by far
Note: This is my first thermal coffeemaker, and it beats the crap out of all the heating ones I've have befor

I have had this model for several years, and I can't rave enough about it. Every time I visit my kids' homes and use their coffee makers, it makes me ever so much happier that I have this one. I'm about to purchase another one as a gift, so I hope Black & Decker hasn't changed a thing and that it will last as long as mine has. Pros: Stainless steel carafe keeps coffee warm and can sit on the table within reach; easily programmable; lid fits easily and is easy to see where to turn to the pour spout; and, my favorite, it has a detachable reservoir for easy filling. Cons: NONE.
