Bought this for my wife after the last B&D hand mixer went out, it was 15 years old :-) so my wife was very excited about this one as it seems to be better constructed and a more powerful motor than the previous mixer that lasted so long. In a world where manufactures are giving products pre-determined life expectancies, it's good to know some companies still value, value.

I'm adding this note to all those who are reading the reviews for this product. I bought this mixer for my wife nearly three years ago and she has used it for a zillion cooking projects; she likes making things from scratch. Well the main gripe about this mixer, in other reviews, is there is no low setting. I decided to see for myself if it really was true that batter etc. was flung all over the place when using the lowest setting. I used a shallow bowl and whipped up six egg whites for some waffles I was making; I couldn't have been happier with the outcome and the whites peaked just like the recipe called for and there was absolutely no mess. Whenever I cook I always make a mess, but not with this mixer . . . go figure.
