Customer Review: This Steamer is a Must-Have in my Kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I've tried many different types of Electric Food Steamers and this one is, by far, the best!
Some are impossible to keep clean...like the Oster steamer--mold-type black particles collect in the "water window" area... The Black & Decker Model is "simply perfect". When you lift out the steamer baskets you just add water to whatever level is necessary...cleaning is so easy! Just pour out the water after you're done and rinse out the unit and let it dry.
I'm a stickler for cleanliness and this one keeps me satisfied!
Customer Review: Simple, it just works! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second one (first one sent off to a friend after many years of use). It is simple (just a mechanical dial for minutes). Steam saturates the container in 3~5 minutes, so add your cooking time on top (if you are looking at a cook book specifically written for this model, they might have incorporated that start-up time). Hard water scaling on the heating element can be removed / controlled by boiling the water with a teaspoon of lemon juice, and cleaning with cloth (to me, it is a maintenance routine once in a while).
Customer Review: A must have for the kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I love this steamer, I've had it for about 4 years now and has been working extremely well, it's very easy to clean, I mostly use it only with one basket on because I don't need the extra capacity, I like to steam broccoli and cauliflower (15 min. low). By the way mine did come with an instructions booklet which has the reference for the times needed for different items like fish (fresh vs. frozen), poultry, etc.. it should be in the box, I mention this because of other comments that theirs didn't have the booklet.
Customer Review: a little initiative Summary: 5 Stars
I agree the use and care guide should have included directions on cooking rice. That one can't do by trial and error -- but it was not that tough to locate a users guide (including detailed instructions for cooking rice) by googling. To steam other foods -- do your pans come with directions on how long to saute onions? Really. There are guides on the back of the appliance that can't get drowned or misplaced in a drawer. The bottom line is it does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do, with no fuss and minimal cleanup.
