Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker G48TD Grill and Waffle Baker

Customer Review: good quality, good price, practical.
Summary: 5 Stars

It is good quality, but it isn't the best thing out there. The plates can be a little tricky when removing or putting them in place since the area allotted is an exact fit. Before any and every use I make sure to lightly brush the plates with oil (extra virgin olive oil) to prevent sticking. They don't taste greasy or oily. For those who had problems probably had a defective or should consider purchasing something more elaborate or specialized; either way its more expensive. I can see how the outside can get stained easily, but if you wipe it down after every use then it should be fine. The product is perfectly fine for what it is. I mainly use this to make waffles.

Customer Review: I've owned thee over more than 30 years
Summary: 5 Stars

I've bought others, but I've owned three Black & Decker Grill and Waffle Bakers over more than 30 years. Yes the shell does get hot but I'm alert enough not let anything touch the shell when I'm cooking with it. I've no complaints about the nonstick surface considering the first two were lost in divorce and not worn out. Be advised, waffle recipes containing extra sugar will stick. I will own no other primarily because the cooking plates are not just reversible but removable making it the easiest waffle maker to clean. It's adjustable heat control, and temperature indicating light allows my wife blond waffles and I get my darker crispier ones. It's inexpensive too.

Customer Review: Still a Good Design
Summary: 5 Stars

We originally purchased a waffle iron 25+ years ago. Several years ago we started to cook and freeze waffles for later quick breakfasts and would literally spend hours making them. We finally decided to get a second iron to speed up the process and were surprised to find the B&D G48TD which is virtually an exact copy of our old GE model (the only difference we could find is an "off" setting on the temperature controller). This iron makes the perfect size waffles for our toaster and is easy to clean up afterwards. Obviously, we like the design or we wouldn't have purchased a near duplicate. The waffle iron was christened this weekend and didn't disappoint.

Customer Review: Better Than the Others
Summary: 5 Stars

We used to have one like this from years ago and really liked it. It "finally" wore out, then we went without one at all for a while. When we wanted to have waffles again, all we could find were those Belgian waffle makers that made one at a time, but we have a family and like to make enough even for leftovers. One of the ones we tried was supposed to be non-stick, and even with spraying it, stuff stuck to it horribly. We had bits and pieces of waffles. Besides that, those others don't come apart to wash, and they don't reverse into a pancake maker. This one is well worth the price for all that I mentioned. Don't waste your money and time on others.

Customer Review: Don't be afraid of the lower price!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been making waffles for 26 years. During that time I had one wafflemaker. It finally gave out on me and I wondered where I could find another just like it. I found one in the Black and Decker Grill and Waffle Baker. The removable plates are a must in my opinion. This makes cleaning so much easier! The non-stick surface releases the waffles quickly and the unit browns the entire waffle evenly. It does the job just as well as any expensive brand - without paying an unnecessary high cost. Any who comment about batter oozing out have simply not learned how much batter to pour into the unit. Once you learn that there is not an oozing problem.
