Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker G48TD Grill and Waffle Baker

Customer Review: Excellent, reliable product
Summary: 5 Stars

My mother has had one for 30 or 40 years which works great. Growing up we had weekly waffles for a family of nine. My wife and I have now had one, which we bought used at a yard sale, for 16 years and been very happy with it for waffles and grilled cheese sandwiches for our family of five. I would not want a unit that did fewer than four waffles at a time. My son, attempting to be helpful, washed it in water which got into the electronics. Unfortunately it was not yet dry the next time we went to use it - sparks and smoke. So, it is time to replace it. After much searching we're going with the same thing. It is reliable and does the job.

By the by, two tricks for making extra thick waffles:
1) cut in whipped egg whites
2) seperate the top plate a bit - I use a couple of butter knives (which get hot so use a mitt).

Customer Review: Old school perfection
Summary: 5 Stars

These old fashioned sandwich grill/waffle irons aren't easy to find anymore, but my parents finally found this one instead of a basic griddle I had asked for last Christmas. It's pretty much like the old ones they used for pancakes, waffles, and sandwiches while I was growing up, except it seems to heat more consistently and evenly than the old ones. After properly oiling the grids and a practice run or two, it makes perfect waffles and pancakes, and it fulfills the role of a griddle and sandwich grill just as well. (Isn't the whole point of this thing those great mashed hot ham 'n' cheese or barbecue sandwiches?) This is kitchen technology that was perfected many years ago. Much more versatile than all the other grills, griddles, and waffle irons out there, and performs each function as well as any of them.

Customer Review: B&D G48TD Waffle/Grill and Iron.
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife chose this over the large assortment of Waffle irons made by a number of manufacturers. She liked the idea of it's versatility. She also liked the Black and Decker brand because her previous waffle iron was made by Black and Decker.

We have had the iron a little over a month and she has used it 3 to 4 times per week; both the flat surface and waffle sides. She really likes that perfect pancakes and waffles are easy to make, the unit is easy to use and clean, and it does not take up much space.

She did comment that she has to oil/butter the waffle surface each time she adds batter or the waffle is very difficult to remove though it has the non-stick surface. So far, it has not "Seasoned" for easy removal of waffles.

She has no regrets, though; this is a keeper.

Customer Review: Great Waffle maker
Summary: 5 Stars

Friend of mine recommended this unit after he had bought it at Lowes 2-3yrs ago. Having looked there and just about everywhere else I could not find this unit so it become a quest. Luckily, Amazon had it at very affordable price.
I been using it mainly for waffles so I am not sure how much of pancake or french toast grill this unit can be but the waffles are great. It girls very evenly and I would recommend setting the nob on higher temp on 'waffle' setting to get nice, crisp and brown waffles. Unit does get a bit warm so careful - I mean, even your average toaster gets hot so if you need this warning I would see a specialist.

Great buy, super fast delivery by Amazon...and Black & Decker simply puts out primo products.
If it ever burns out, I will be getting the same model for sure.

Customer Review: Perfect Waffles
Summary: 5 Stars

Just got this waffle maker for Christmas, and it makes waffles just like Mom used to. In fact, this waffle maker looks and works almost identically to the one Mom used back in the '70s. I followed the directions to season the plates, and from the first batch onward, the waffles come out perfectly - lightly crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside. I read many of the online reviews for this product, but I haven't encountered any issues with the plates - they clip in and out easily, and the waffles come right out after the light goes out. However, it's not an idiot-proof machine - it gets really hot during use (just like the one from years back), but then again, it's gotta get really hot to cook the waffles, so it just takes a little care when using. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this product.
