Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker G48TD Grill and Waffle Baker

Customer Review: Very easy to clean
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm really happy with this unit. I've wanted a waffle maker for a while, but it was hard to justify the expense and kitchen real estate for such a limited-used appliance. I jumped on this one as soon as I saw it, since it really is 3-in-1. It works great as a waffle iron; the waffles are thin and cook just right. I actually use it most for sandwiches, as it makes any regular sandwich suddenly much tastier in just a few minutes. It also works well as a griddle, and I have made pancakes and eggs on it.

I can't say enough about how great the removable plates are for cleaning. They are remarkably nonstick in the first place, but taking them off and cleaning them is incredibly easy. It's a snap to switch between the waffle side and the grill/griddle side, too.

In short, I find myself leaving this out on my counter and using it all the time, due to the multi-functionality and the ease of cleaning. I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Waffles almost like moms
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I remember my mom having this type of waffle maker. I looked for one for years. Yes I know this one is differently made. But cooking waffles on it has sure brought back those memories. I can't wait to try and do sandwitches on the other side. I do wish that the plate were dishwasher safe but I am glad they pop off so that you can clean them easily.
As for my waffle recipe, I just used the one on the back of the Jiffy Baking mix box. While mixing my ingredients, I preheated my grill for about 5 minutes with the setting about 3/4 of the way on the waffle setting. Then I sprayed with cooking spray. I poured my batter and in about 6 minutes my waffles were done. My husband likes his waffles a little less brown than I do so his were done in 4-5 minutes.
It is very hot, so be sure to take precautions not to have it where children can touch it. Also, steam comes out the side while cooking, so be careful of that.

Customer Review: Awesome Waffle Maker!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the traditional waffle maker I am accustomed to! We sued to have one of these when I was a kid, and I loved waffles! Not sure what happenned to it, but I have one again, and am loving it!

I have not used the grill/griddle side of the plates, but that is a great feature to have! The unit will actually fully open up, so both grills are available, but you do have a gap between them. Swapping the plates out is easy too! There is a metal clip you press to release the plate, and it can pop right out. Just make sure it is cool! I worried that the clip would allow the plates to pop out unintentionally, but they hold in tight!

This waffle maker makes the traditional style waffles, kind of akin to those you can buy frozen at the store. They are great! Nothing like fresh waffles!

I am really happy with my Black & Decker Waffle Maker, and if you want to make waffles, you should give it a try!

Customer Review: Solid machine for the dollar
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a waffle maker featuring easy cleanup. Most grills don't allow submerging in dish water or dish washers. Wrestling with a gungy grill over the sink can be a real pain. Black and Decker addressed the problem by allowing removal of their grill plates. Not only are the grill plates removable but they're also reversible to a flat grill plate on the opposite side. The grill can be fully opened and used as two flat surfaces, convenient for traditional grilled foods. The machine also features a self leveling top when closed. Ideal for grilled sandwiches and the like. The Black Decker Grill Waffle Maker heats and browns foods evenly using the built in heat control. As mentioned, cleanup of the non-stick surfaces is a snap. Bottom line, very useful for a variety of grilled foods, a lot of features for the money and it does what it's made for...well. I've owned several waffle grills, this one is the best so far.

Customer Review: yayayayaya!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have one of these. It's from 30 years ago. My dad would make waffles in it. When he passed, I insisted on keeping it.

This makes the small-hole waffles which are great for butter.

The orange light on front tells when it's at temperature. This doubles as a "done cooking" light.

There's a knob on the front for baking temperature. Hotter makes it more crispy outside and gooey inside. Cooler makes it dry out more but take longer to cook.

The plates flip to allow you to make a grilled cheese sandwich, or pannini type goodies very quickly, without the stripes.

The finish is stainless steel. The unit overall is durable, easy to use, and easy to clean.

The only minus is, since it's metal on the outside, it gets hot. If you're clumbsy, or your kids like to reach up, then you might want one that's mostly plastic on the outside.
