Customer Review: Not a dumb idea
Summary: 5 Stars

My sister gave me and my wife one of these 20-some years ago. At the time we thought "another dumb Christmas present". By now, however, it has been used so many times that the basket is cracked and nearly falling apart. I have glued cracks back together in the past, and will try taping it up with clear packing tape next. Unfortunately a piece of the bottom has fallen out - but we still use it. In fact we had fresh asparagus from the garden tonight, steamed to perfection (7 minutes). Asparagus doesn't fall through the hole in the bottom! Thanks to this simple little appliance, I know we have eaten far more properly cooked fresh vegetables over the past 20 years than we otherwise would have.
Aside from the basket falling apart after 20 years, it's still in perfect working condition. I hate to throw it out and get a new one, but I will if I have to. This thing is great.

Customer Review: I Love this thing!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this primarily to cook brown rice, because it takes so long and the bottom always got scorched on the stove. I was extremely pleased at how well rice turns out in this thing! You simply follow the measurements in the product guide, turn it on and walk away. I would like to point out that it is especially important to use the measurements in the user guide and NOT on the rice package, or it won't come out right. I can turn it on, go to the gym, and it shuts itself off when it is done. The rice stays warm and moist because of the steamy water underneath. I have also used it for broccoli and string beans and they too have turned out great. I can now eat my favorite brown rice more often, because I am not tied to the stove for an hour. I highly recommend this because professional rice cookers are outrageously expensive, and this can be used for so many more things!

Customer Review: Not to small and not to big
Summary: 5 Stars

I use my steamer everyday. My husband and I eat hardboilded eggs everyday or should I say steamed boilded eggs. The timer on the steamer is great that I'm able to set it and leave while the steamer is working. I had a smaller steamer but it didn't have a timer and I could not cook rice very good in it. Also it had a metal plate in the bottom and it had started to rust, that is why I got a new one. This steamer does not have any metal in the cooking area which was important to me. I have a small amount of counter space and I didn't want to get the larger steamer and this one is great. It will make about 4 cups of rice and has a separate bowl for rice cooking. The main cantiner is easy to remove away from the steamer so you don't get burned. My other steamer you had to remove the food from the cantiner and it was very hard to keep from getting burned.

Customer Review: Incredible
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this thing. Just put all your dinner components into it and turn on the timer.

A few things to note:
1. You can cook a full meal for one, maybe two people in this, or a side dish for a family. If you're going to be cooking for a family I'd recommend a bigger steamer.
2. Some things take longer to cook than others. If you want to cook carrots you better stick them in 20 minutes before everything else, while squash is done in under 10 minutes.
3. The juice in the drip pan is incredible. Pour it into a baggie and freeze it so that you can use it for soup stock, or whatever. Don't ever pour it out.
4. The spice screen doesn't do much. With that much steam and that little spice the flavor just gets too diluted. You're better off seasoning after it is done cooking.

Customer Review: Best kitchen product that I have ever bought.
Summary: 5 Stars

Since buying this steamer from Amazon.com a few months ago, I have been using it almost every single day. I am a vegetarian who can't stand eating raw vegetables or salad, so this machine is a lifesaver that I wish I had bought years ago.

The items I most frequently steam in this are, in order of frequency: rice (unique excellent taste), peanuts in shell (but takes more than 75 mins to steam), boiled eggs (they always turn out great once you figure out a time to suit your needs -- no more eggs that are too hard if you undercook or too soft if you forget to turn off the stove in time), spinach (turns a beautiful dark green in 10 mins), broccoli (for the first time in my life, I eat broccoli by itself) and various other green vegetables.
