Customer Review: the HS1000 was shipped not theHS800
Summary: 3 Stars

B&D FLAVOR SCENTER STEAME R REPLACES HS80
The HS800 was more convenient because it was smaller and higher then the HS1000, allowing it to fit in a smaller kitchen cabinet space.
The water is hard to see in the water level window

Customer Review: Great while it lasts
Summary: 2 Stars

We loved our steamer. Used it at least one a night. For two years. Tonight, after I'd cut up all our vegetables for a stir fry, lo and behold, we discovered the steamer was dead. Completely dead. Doesn't run. And Black & Decker's attitude is: Oh, you got this as a present? So you can't prove how long you've owned it? Tough luck. You have to buy a new one.

That would be fine, IF I HADN'T BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR A YEAR. I have no money for a new steamer. Heck, I can't make my mortgage payments. Black & Decker have forced me to write a bad review about a good item because of their attitude towards backing up their products. They DON'T. And they obviously don't care about customer service.

I'll steam my rice on the stove in a pot from now on, thank you very much.

Customer Review: Small steamer with obsolete technology
Summary: 2 Stars

This was the first steamer I ever owned. I purchased it back in '89. I would not recommend it owing to the slow speed at which it steams and the small basket size. The newer oval syle with the insta-steam function generates instant steam and the steam is more evenly distributed. This model has a large heating element visible in the reservoir. The entire reservoir must be heated to 212 deg. before you get steam. Spend a few bucks more for the oval steamer with the insta-steam function. It cooks faster, better and is easier to store.

Customer Review: The bottom holder has to be improved.
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this steamer a couple of months ago. The bottom holder is really a problem. It is where the water gets heated, and is connected with the power cord. However, the bottom holder has to be washed as the water is contaminated every time I steam. It's so inconvenient to wash it with the cord on it. Also the plastic heating nob in the holder has already begun to crack and break. Terrible. I really think its design should be improved to solve these problems.

Customer Review: LACKS INSTRUCTIONS
Summary: 2 Stars

Steams well, but only very limited timing instructions are in small print on theside of the steamer. Also does not say if to use another dish
inside and/or the one provided for rice.
CAUTION: Managed to burn outside of two fingers rather badly - handles
on the lid are at sides and steam may hit fingers when removing
lid.
